Default Brakes- What does 'integral' mean?

In the handbook, it says that the brakes are 'integral'. What does this actually mean, is there a physical link between the front and rear brakes?

on abs models, yes. with ABS turned on and in any mode, when you pull the front brake, the rear brake is applied aswell. even in slick.

turning it off will stop this. which is recommended for things like track days when you dont want your rear brake applied while trailing into a corner. even though we want our abs to funstion in the case of a woops, its equally as bad to have the rear come out mid corner while on the front brakes.

that being said, im a rebel, and i always leave it on. hahaha

What Slim said... except in Slick mode, then apparently they are barely integral.

Thanks for the replies, but what I was getting at was how are they linked. Are they like the Honda system on the VFR?

they are only semi linked, the front lever will activate the front and rear (porportionally if I recall correctly) but the rear brake pedal only activates the rear brake. I think Hondas systems activates both with either lever (or at least it used to several years ago)

im only guessing here but i would assume they are linked through the abs pump. when it is turned on, pump is on, they are linked, when it is off, pump is non functional, no linkage?

Correct.

Remember to turn ABS off if you decide to do a little show and burn up your rear tire. With the ABS on you will fry your rear brake caliper and disc!
