Thumbs up AIM SOLO DL write up

The Aim Solo data logger has arrived.

I bought it from MotoDex UGmbH , and I have been impressed by Tony and his customer service.

First impressions are that its a well built unit. Boots up quickly and even finds some satellites inside the house.

Menu system seems good.
It can be set up for Circuit racing, Point to point (as in a rally stage), It will also do these as regularity (when you try to get either lap times as close as possible to each other) or Performance (ie 0-60 mph, 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile drag runs.)

Can have the standard display pages and an additional 4 custom pages.

Some tracks are pre-loaded, (not worked out how to add/remove tracks yet.)

Comes with magnets mounts, but I have bought a RAM Mount so I can mount it with my SAt Nav stuff.

Have to order a small part from BMW to connect it to the Alarm socket under the passenger seat.

There was a lead missing from the package however Tony at motodex has been great chasing this up.
He spent about half an hour on the phone to me yesterday (he is in Germany). He was very helpful and seemed enthusiastic about all things bikes. I would recommend Tony very highly.

Back of unit showing the magnets (these are strong)

Backing plate, to which I have connected a RAM mount, as well as teh magnets there are 2 Allen bolts to hold the plate to the logger.

Unit mounted to bike:

I still have not tested the unit on the road yet. It will work as a laptimer, but no data logging yet, as I am waiting for the lead and the part from BMW. However I have installed the software and configured the unit to read the BMW ecu:

The software comes with test data already in: This shows RPM in green and TPS% in purple. All the things you can show, are listed down the left hand side.

Unit showing screen for 0-60 timing:

More to come when road tested and cable and connecting plug are fitted.

Just checked AIM website. Looks like the have a lambda O2 sensor. But I prefer to use the Bazzaz auto tuner if I can. Just to save a few dollar and not buy a extra O2 sensor.

AIM Racing Data Power - Bike products

I loved the complete datalog function on AEM EMS unit when I had the 1000 hp Supra years ago.

Now got the unit installed and fully working.

I bought a plug for the DWA Connector (where the Alarm plugs in). However in the AIM technical documentation they omitted to say to connect wires for the power supply so after a test session the unit battery went flat after a couple of hours. Now I have sorted that out (see other thread) the unit now charges when the ignition is on so flat battery wont happen again.

The amount of information it logs is massive. Yesterday I just left it in 1/4 mile mode. Will have to do a small 'track' somewhere to test other functions.

You can see the difference between front and rear wheel speed, hand throttle % and bike throttle % (dont ask me the difference please) yew rate and roll rate - in degrees/second. Air intake temperature. When the traction control is active, amongst lots of others.

Plug the Bazzaz in one lamda and the Aim O2 sensor in the other. In this way you can check what values you have in some sections of the track. All these can be combined with throttle%,speed etc. and give you some really interesting results.Really good setup if you are racing and know what you are doing.

Hi Godzilla, i`m about to buy the same laptimer AIM SOLO DL, i`m really interested to know the specific cable that you have to buy from BMW, do you have the reference? Also i think that you have the perfect way/place to put the laptimer, do you have more pictures and the references of the parts for order the same one?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Regards
