Default 2010/2011 ecu compatibility

having sum issues wanted to know if the ecu and ignition from the 2011 will work with the 2010 was working on the bikes earlier today me a a friend have s1000 rr's and i accidentally plugged in his ecu and ignition when we were rapping up and the bike would turn over but she would not start, for a minute thought i'd have 2 take advantage of that warranty ; ). anyway my question is i believe the 10' rr has 3 modes race, rain etc while the 11' rr has 4 modes including slick but for future reference just in case anyone has to get a new ecu on ebay or used whatever the situation it can be cleared up on here if there are any differences so they don't get stuck with a ecu they cannot use. also when u plugged in my original ecu she cut right on, thank you in advance 4 any info on the matter and i hope this can help anyone who runs into this problem..

They are the same. If one bike has a drop sensor and the other doesn't that can cause malfunction. Swapping ECU's is not recommended even for testing purposes. Possible mileage transfers can happen if you don't also swap instrument clusters at the same time--would have to be ridden to have an effect the mileage, just sitting and starting won't effect it.

Swapping ECUs often necessitate "reseting adaptation values" in order for the ECU to work correctly on the non-original bike. Not always necessary but usually is.

If you don't have SLICK mode on the '10 then it doesn't have the SLICK plug installed.

Why are you swapping them anyways?
