Clutch Issue
I've been battling this for awhile now, and I'm trying to find if this is normal or I need to take this thing in to get looked at.
It seems to happen when the bike is warm or even hot, not so much when the bike is cold. When I'm at a dead stop and I ease into the throttle and release the clutch the bike tends to jerk, sometimes worse than most times. If I give it a lot more gas and force it through the 'jerk', the clutch engages just fine and smoothly. This only happens when I'm at a dead stop, when running through the rest of the gears it engages smoothly with no problems. I would think I should be able to smoothly ease on the gas and release the clutch and it be a fluid motion, but it jerks violently. I thought maybe the oil was the issue so I changed my oil. It seemed to improve, but the jerk is still there. Now as much as I would love to hammer the gas and launch this thing everytime from a light, I'd also like to be able to ride this bike as normal.
I want to pull out the basket and inspect the plates, but since it is under warranty I'd rather take it in if I have to especially now during our 'winter' months.
Suggestions?

If it happens fairly regularly and you think that the test rider will notice it then take it in. Not sure what it may be. Never heard of this happening. Give them as much detail as possible when you check it in and make sure they write it down or explain it to the tech or rider if possible.

Yea, if I feather the clutch or ride it more than normal... I'm able to ride through the jerk also. But if I let it engage then let out, jerk city. Never experienced this on previous bikes.
EDIT: It's almost like oil isn't getting between the plates or something...

it could be the 'slipper' mechanism that a lot of people delete for drag raching, makes for a smoother launch when you delete it.
dont be afraid to pull the clutch cover off and inspect the disks, just make sure you put them back in the same order you pulled them out. the dealer wont be able to tell if you had it off or not. just be careful to not tear the gasket apart, it usually just sticks to the cover and is reusable.

Yep good advice,
i`ve had my clutch out two times when i was fitting the factory pro detent spring, first time was a pain as i found out the bolt holding the spring bracket was a male torx bolt, so i built it back up until i got a socket to fit it.
Put your plates back in exactly as you take them out ( inspect the friction and steel plates for scratches etc when they are out)..
Off on a tangent a little, but does anyone have the stm slipper clutch fitted, as i want to know
1. is it less noisy that stock on idle?
2. does it stop that clanking noise that the standard slipper has?

Are you riding in this weather
Have you been slipping the clutch a lot? If you continue to have issues, I'd definitely take it in... just make sure the issue can be replicated consistently. I always take mine all the way to Sandia, the guys are really good down there.

It's been a couple weeks since I have jumped on the saddle, been busy with work, but yes. I'm more south of you now though. We don't have much snow here in the Duke city. I plan to take it in the next couple of weeks, especially since I want to do a 520 conversion -1 +2. After speaking with a tech today during my vehicle service, he mentioned it sounded more like a tranny issue I really hope not, but we'll see I guess.

MUCH warmer down there... 8-10 degrees for sure. You commuting or working down there now?
The guys over at Sandia are good. They'll take care of you?
You gonna make it out to the track in 2012, especially since you're closer? I got a track bike (very inexpensive) I can hook ya up with... she's up for sale right now
