Default Rear Sprocket VS Stock Chain Length

How many teeth can I add to the rear before I need a longer chain? Can I get away with two teeth before a new chain is required?

You can also go down -1 up front (from 17t down to 16t) which is the same as adding just under 3 teeth out back. Some people do both.

Hope this helps,

Triple

I Liked it a lot, was a great improvement so I went -1 in the front as well.

now have -1 & +1 (16 - 45) this combo suits me perfectly.

Start out with a -1 on the front. Try it out first. I think you'll like it a lot. It is just shy of adding three teeth to the rear, I think it is equivalent to +2.6 in the rear. Stock chain length will be fine. It is also easier to do (although the rear isn't too hard either). And it is cheaper.

Then if you still want a little more get up and go after you do that, add two to the rear. So you'd end up at -1,+2.

I've been running this for over a year and it is a great mod. Also puts the RPMs for in town driving in a more manageable area.

EDIT: I'd add that the stock chain length is also fine for a -1,+2

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to do the 16 tooth on the front and fit the BMC air filter this winter as part of winter mods. I also will be winter modding my 600RR, installing an Annitori quick shifter and removing the Pair valve and putting in a K&N air filter on that bike. I also will be installing the motivation weighted barends. Did this on the S1K and it does make a big difference.
