Odd behavior when braking hard w/foot pedal
I was testing the brake pedal today at low speeds, second and first gear to test the ABS. I was in race mode with traction and abs on and I pressed hard on the brake pedal and it felt as if power was cut to the bike, so much that at really low speeds, 10mph and under, it would lock the rear wheel and stall the bike. Switched to slick mode and pressed hard on the brake and same thing. Anyone with some info would be greatly appreciated, Im really interested if this is how the rear wheel and or dtc kick in, if so its pretty harsh. Maye someone can try pressing the foot brake hard as to try and lock it on race and slick mode with and and dtc on to see what the bike would do. Thanks alot I really appreciate your help.

If you lock the rear wheel while in gear, no matter how you do it, the motor will stall because it can no longer turn.

I had seen that discussion before and read over it, thought maybe you saw something I hadn't related to my experience but I see you don't quite grasp my questions. Thanks for your reference but the difference in the modes and the amount of electronics intervention don't help at all question. Hopefully someone else could chime in with a more relevant response.

ABS = Anti-Lock brake system so you would think the rear wheel should not lock in the Sport or Race mode however it may be inactive at slow speeds but I haven't found anywhere that supports that theory.

ABS does not work at slow speeds. I think it is like 6mph but if you are locking the wheel--it will lock up--and your speed then becomes too slow the ABS will not kick in and intervene leaving the wheel locked.
Try going a little faster, say about 20mph and then push down hard on the rear pedal. Don't just jam it down but use an increasing pressure until you feel the pedal "kick" back at you. This is the ABS cycling--lets pressure out of the brake slave line until it registers that the wheel is turning again. If you keep pressure on the lever it will put pressure back into the system causing the rear wheel to lock up again and then it will "kick" again until you are either too slow for ABS to intervene or you release enough pressure on the lever to the point where ABS does not have to intervene.
Remember, the ABS will not prevent the wheels to lock up if you are jamming on the levers. They will lock and it takes a moment for intervention. Always better to apply steady and increasing pressure so that when you feel it intervening you can back off a hair until ABS does not have to intervene. At this point you are braking at the limit of tire/road adhesion--the best possible deceleration level.

Great, your replies have all been of tremendous help, could be that I was driving too slow...any of the things you guys mentioned. I'll give it a shot applying steady pressure and a bit more speed. Thanks a lot guys.

Viperclaw, does your S1000 "kick" back at you when the ABS intervenes? I've never had that feeling on my S1000 or on my K13. The dealership mechanic explained that the ABS pump builds enough pressure to hold the lever and reduces line pressure itself (on the other side of the pump) rather than kicking and dumping like the old car systems. Just curious, as I've had mine activate a few times and it was never noticeable at the lever, only by the light on the dash.

The pedal's feedback could have been overshadowed by the jerking feeling and stuttering , the lights never came on. This was done at very low speeds, may have to try it at higher speeds in order to determine if it's the ABS.
