Default 2012 maps on a 2010?

Hello,

Does anybody know if the 2012 ECU maps will be available to flash on our current models?

Thanks

It would be nice if they could do that. That way we get the benefit of the updated traction control and ABS.

The short answer is "don't know yet." But I think it is very unlikely.

Not sure what you mean by ECU "maps". If you're talking the fueling maps, I doubt they're separated from the rest of the code well enough to pull them independently. And BMW isn't likely to offer it since they'd have to re-certify emissions for the new combo of the old bike and new maps. It's possible somebody may be able to reverse-engineer it.

If you're talking about the complete ECU software package (including things like traction control), it is almost certain that the 2012 software won't work on earlier bikes, both because the hardware has changed and because BMW has software locks to prevent running new code on the older ECU.

BMW may offer some kind of retrofit of later software features from the 2012 to the earlier bikes code as part of a TSB update process, although I doubt it. This is typically done only to address a glaring driveability or serviceability issue.

BMW wants to sell you a new bike, not update yours.
