Default Suspension range

I just got back from a spirited canyon run in N. Georgia.
Factory suspension settings from the dealer were comfortable, but I have a buddy who works at a race suspension shop and "his guy" adjusted the suspension. Tightened down the front and rear. Put all dampings at 5-7.

Rode great around corners but my eyes felt like they would bounce out of my head on the highway.

Just adjusted the rear spring (loose by one whole turn, which is one whole turn from top of the threads). Adjusted the front to 3 rings showing. Put the rear high speed at 2 and other two at 5. Put fronts at 5 all around.

Felt like my Nighthawk S on the highway, creamy smooth. I'm sure I've given up some bleeding edge handling, but I like being able to see whats in front of me without having to stand on the pegs to see.

Setup for racing is gonna be much firmer than street. If a person is pushing it hard enough on the street to need a race setup, well... I guess that's another topic in it of itself.

I'd suggest that you create a little cheat sheet or log with the settings he had, the settings you have now, some notes out to the side of it... and keep it for future use. If you take the bike to the track it can certainly help there. And if you notice something happening on the street, you can refer back to the log and see what might be changed and keep track of your changes incrementally along with their results.

A proper suspension setup is really an interactive project with the suspension guy and the rider, so doubt you'd be very close if you just had someone dial it in remotely.

Nothing wrong with backing things off to tilt things more towards comfort. I run mine very soft for trips.
