Default Help with tyre choice please

Hi guys,

I'm due for some new shoes, after about 4000km, the rear conti sport attack is pretty much shagged. the front still has about 40% tread.

i don't do any track riding, i commute on the bike and do hills/canyons on weekends. i'd like a set of tyres that will wear out evenly front and rear, i dont like changing just one tyre at a time, i prefer to do both.

at the moment i'm thinking of going a Q2 front matched with sportsmart rear, does this sound ok? i'd like to get atleast 6000km out of a set, but will compromise on this if i have to in order to get good grip.

are there any other suggestions you guys could make that you feel would suit my application?

Thanks

Danny

when my K3s ran out I switched to sportec M5s for street riding, I have always liked them for good sticky street tires

I don't like mixing and matching at all.

This might provide some options to consider. Tires, Tires, Tires Link.

Q2's I highly recommended, I put a set on this past Spring and I'm quite satisfied with the overall performance of the tires. They are quite sticky when they warm up, really hold on to the pavement in turns.

thanks for the link, i've been through that thread and there's some very useful info there.

could you please elaborate on why you don't like mixing tyre compounds? i've always thought it wouldn't be an issue if they were from the same manufacturer.

thanks

It's a personal choice, long story short, motorcycles are about the most dangerous things most of us riders do.

The only thing between us and the ground are our tires. They are made in sets, that are designed work in tandem, they're width, height, and profile are specific to each other.

Can a worn out front slick work with a new rear motard tire? Sure it will roll down the street, but I don't want that combination when the $hit hits the fan and I'm fighting for my life if things where to go a rye.

I just keep it simple and don't try to come up with exotic tire mixes with the hopes that I know more then the engineers that produce tires.

Hope this helps,

Triple

+1 on not being a fan of mixing, although I have been known to mix within the same brand and in the aspect of a stickier front than rear, like say a Z6 rear with an M5 front, thought being that sliding a rear around a little is no big deal but I want my front planted. JMHO
