Default Running 180 vs 190

I am almost afraid to ask after my last thread got closed!

Anyway, a friend has a SET of Pirelli tires (DOT race take off's) for sale at a stupid good deal however the rear tire is a 180/55/17 instead of the 190/55/17.

Bad idea?

Never tried a 180 but would expect the traction control to be working overtime. Probably tear it up pretty quick too if you're track riding. Just my best guess.

I may be wrong with this quote, but.............. yeah, a bad idea! The wheel isnt designed to take that size tire, you will alter the curveture of the tire!

The wheel is a 6" isn't it? Pretty much all current 600-1000cc sport bikes use a 6" width wheel. Did BMW go wider?

The bike was designed with a 190. I personally would leave well alone.

If you fit a 180 tire on a rim/bike that is designed for a 190 tire, you will roll off the edge of the tire etc

I 'm running 180. Over a year now, with more than 9k klm on track. Never roll off the edge of the tire. 180 is closer to front (120) than 190, corner stability. Lighter.
But it is my style of riding. I don't have any more room in my front tire for the tarmac. It's useless for me a bigger tire, not to say more dangerous. I 'll run out of tire in my front.

shouldn't be any issues with tyre coming off or anything. things to consider are, what type of riding do u do? with the 180 you're going to have slightly less contact patch in a straight line, also the tyre will be prone to squaring off more easily, but if you're on a track or constantly do twisties then that won't be an issue. the 180 will also give quicker turn in, as well as being easier to flick from side to side. if your suspension is set up right, you shouldn't run out of tyre, the front and rear should wear around the same

Did the swap and found that it handles better with the 180. The supercorsa's are real nice.
