Default Need a new rear tire

6k miles on the stock and it needs to be replaced. I live in Houston so unfortunately most of my riding is straightaways and therefore I need a tire with a harder center. Anybody suggest a rear tire for mostly straight riding? Thanks

Metzeler M5 would be my choice, still a bit sporty but longer life. Replace both front and rear at the same time, even if the front looks OK. Check online for tire pricing, there are a few really good internet businesses available to you. Just my opinion, you'll get lots more.

I spoke to the local tyre place I use and they rate Michelin Pilot Road 3's. Definitely a sport touring tyre though. They're not the cheapest but they say that for road use they will take whatever you throw at them. They're not for the track but it doesn't sound like that's what you're after anyway.

There have been posts on this very forum about people getting 7000 miles from Michelin Pilot Pures. It seems far fetched but they say the evidence is there.

I fancy a set of Dunlop Sportsmart when the time comes. Unfortunately they don't do them on your side of the pond yet but they're getting rave reviews everywhere.

Thanks guys!

One day I'll take the beast to the track and really see what she can do. Right now I use it more as a daily driver, however I am letting off because I am racking up the miles quick.

I put pirelli rosso corsas on after i burned through my k3s. I LOVE these tires. Im no tire expert by any means, and i tend to trash my tires bc I don't ever like using traction control. But, Id say look into them for an agressive street tire. they seem to take a bit to warm up but once they do i like the feed back they give. After 1300 miles and a few burnouts im near 50% tread left in the center of my rear and the front is still near 75% easy. If your nice to your tires they should last a while with a daily commute and still feel solid enough to enjoy any twisties you may find.
I ran Michlen pilot road 2s before the 3s came out on my cbr and for racking up the miles they were a fantastic tire. I could tell when I was near their limits so I didn't have any real suprises. Which is always nice.. hah

Just my 2cents on the matter.
