Default OZ Magnesiun VS. Aluminum Rims

I've been thinking about my next upgrade. Debating between getting the OZ Magnesium rims or Aluminum.

My question is, would I actually be able to tell the difference between the two on the track? I know I will have to get the speed rings and rotors..but not sure which brand bolts right up...There is quite a price difference between the two.

Just wanted to find out if any one has had issues or problems...

Both suck big time, just buy some BST's and save money while you're at it.

Ask any AMA team about their OZ's, they suck.

They must be terrible, after all Josh Hayes (#1 AMA Superbike), Mark Marquez (#2 in points in Moto2) and Carlos Checa (#1 in points in World Superbike) run the OZ Forged Magnesium Cattiva R Wheels.

Nevermind that some of the praise which is heaped on the RSV4 Factory is due to the ultra-light forged AL OZ wheels (nearly the same weight as the forged mag wheels from the RSVR Nera), and that forged AL OZs have been OEM on the Factory version V2 Aprilia's since 1998...

DagoR6 doesn't need to ask those guys. After all, he's got both OZ and PVM wheels on his super bike race team bikes. And the BSTs? Well, I swiped them and now they're on my bike.

I rode my buddy's GSX-R with BST's and he warned me what to was going to feel like going over bumps or the steel section of a bridge where it holds together. I rode and it felt like the rims were going to crack on every bump and it was very hash and translated everything through the rim. He loved them and I also though they were amazing as well but I couldnt deal with that feel, I literally cringed every time. I prefer some magnesium Marchisins my self.

Them being free probably has something to do with their adoption on those teams. You can't hand a race team free wheels and then claim all of their racing success as somehow based on your free wheels.

Especially when you consider that Mag wheels are very similar in weight, the main differentiators are:

1) Forged or Cast
2) Spacers and ease of use
3) Stock bearing quality
4) Rotor mounts (since that's open ended)
5) Resistance to bending over curbs and tire fitment
6) Slippage after wet mounting race tires
7) Air retention

Considering the above, almost all of those qualities are going to show up in references from the mechanics rather than on track results.

How are the OZ's holding up compared to the BST's?

They bend, which I'm not a fan of.

The BST's stay solid until you get in some massive crash and then the rims give way (which is what CF is supposed to do which is why they use it in bodywork). But BST will replace the entire rim for some really cheap price. The cost is mainly in the hub for them.

The BST's are lighter and more importantly the weight is heavily centralized, they're faster around a race track, no doubt there. They come with ceramic bearings for free when you get them from Brocks.

If the OZ's weren't 4K it might make sense to look at them, but when they're the same price or more as BST's.... it's silly.
