Default Track/Tires Question?

I'm going to the track on september and have a question, my bike has 3000 miles on it. I've only ridden the streets but in order to go to the track the tires must be like new. the front tire its like new, but the rear tire i dont think it will pass tech. my question is, is there a problem if i go on a conti sport attack on the front and a dunlop q2 on the rear?

You should probably just get the Q2 front, but chances are your Conti is probably okay. Post a pic and get some feedback,

Also, don't be surprised if this thread is moved.

What kind of track experience do you have? If it is limited, you'll be fine with just about anything. If you are A group (you probably wouldn' be asking this question), you may want to swap as a set. I believe tire model are designed to be run together, ie Michelin Power Ones as a set vs Power One Front and Dunlap whatever rear. That could be a bunch of whowee though.

As a track day coach myself, if you have question as to if your tires will pass tech, replace them. It is cheap insurance to get you through tech and to have confidence in the tires.

the front tire will pass no doubt, i have not been pushing it hard on the road. but the rear tire does have some flat parts in the middle section. now, as a track coach, is there a problem running on different tire brands? i know they are supposed to be sold as a set, but the rear tire does wear out a lot faster that the front. btw (im a begginer, 1st time track enthusiast)

For me personally, as I ride 80% on the track, I go through two rear tires for every front. This was even more evident when I had my Ducati 1098s with all the torque it put out.

If you plan to switch to another brand, buy a set of that brand/model and only mount the rear for now. As a first time track rider, the last thing going through your mind out there should be your tires. You'll have plenty of other things grabbing your attention.

IMHO you must have matching tyres on the front and back. If you replace the back only make sure it is the same make/model as the front.
