Default Carbon rims....do or don't????

So I just replaced the tyre on the rear, decided to keep it OEM and fitted the Cont-Attack sport "C" however when I removed the rear wheel the first thing that stuck me was the weight of the wheel and tyre, wow, way heavier than the 1198!!! soooo..... to carbon or not to carbon do any guy's here have experience or relevent info on the BST rims, I have read the writeups and coupled with aftermarket front and rear suspension these wheels are a must have??
I am happy with the suspension on my bike the whole thing works really really well but could it really be that much better with the BST's ??? thoughts opinions all welcome Thanks Colin.

I,ve only heard positive things about BST's. The weight savings transforms the bike and is the best mod ( from what I hear). I do only street riding so $3500 seems a lot to me for the street. Other companies like OZ has just released some affordable lightweight rims.

FWIW, the greatest effect of any weight reduction on a suspended vehicle always comes from reducing unsprung weight. If you can afford 'em, carbon wheels will enhance every aspect of the bike--gross weight, acceleration, agility, suspension, and--in my opinion--looks!

The aluminum ones are cheaper

But the magnesium ones are more expensive

I have to agree with LiterBoy that reducing the unsprung weight has a much greater impact. I have not done too much experimenting with motorbikes but on bicycles it is a very noticeable difference when you change rims, tires, pedals or shoes. I would say that saving weight in these areas is about 5 times more effective than saving weight elsewhere. 1lb you save on wheels is like saving 5lb on say your exhaust.

I would never believe OZ's are lighter than BST's....

I watched this wheel let go in that WSBK race. I wondered what brand it was. Im sure some outside factor played a part but it sure looked bad from TV.

Yep, I saw it happen on TV also and in this case the OZ wheel broke and that caused the crash. The crash did not happen first and then the wheel break. Wheel broke, bike crashed.

I love my BSTs. Would purchase again in a heart beat. There is an incredible difference in bike handling and acceleration.
