Default Dang..stupid

Stupid on me for not checking, stupid dumb careless mistake by the dealer, mounted my new K3's but got the direction of rotation backwards on the rear tire. I've got a track day Monday. Hope someone at the track can reverse it for me, everything is closed tomorrow.

Unless it's pissing down with rain, I highly doubt that it will make a difference.

I think it will make a difference. If not then they wouldn't be directional. As you say, the effect may not be noticeable as long as it's dry.

I know a lad who got new rubber on his bike before it went for it's MOT and the Tyre fitter had fitted the tyres with the direction of rotation reversed and his bike was not permitted to go back on the road until it was fixed; not even back to the tyre fitter. The tyre fitter had to go to the MOT station and refit the tyres before the bike was allowed back on the road. You shouldn't have to check that your tyres have been fitted correctly.

Grooves are only there to channel water. Hence no grooves on slicks.

I know that the main reason the grooves are on a tyre is to disperse water but the movement of the blocks also generate heat in the tyre which in turn generates grip.
I would also be concerned about the way the tyre has been constructed to dissipate braking forces. The carcass will have been built up of (kevlar) belts running in a particular direction. In an extreme circumstance you could have the tyre give up the ghost because the force is being focussed on a particular point rather than dissipated across a wider area as intended.

I was under the impression that even slicks were directional but never having used them I can't confirm it.
I think that running a road tyre the wrong way round in very dry conditions would probably be fine 9 times out of 10 but I'd worry about the other 1 if it was me.

The track day got rained out so I got it un-reversed.

I got to ride the track 2 days ago however.

The point about the plies is that while most are 90 degrees true radial, at least one is not, the ply being biased. In theory that would make the carcass directional. Moot point now.

How was the track day on the 4th? I'm going to be there on the 25th of this month and looking forward to it.

no grooves on slicks, but they still have rotational indicators. I'm no expert, but I've been told that the tires with rotational arrows will also have belt construction that is most effective under load in the indicated direction. I have 2 sets of slicks with directional arrows on the sidewall.

It was warm, I guess hit around a 100F air temp.

In the morning, there must have been 60-70 riders. We ran the full course length, started with just one group, but by 9:00 am it was busy enough they broke it into 2 groups, the fast riders and the slow riders. By the lunch break wind picked up a bit and something weird happened. Everyone had July 4th plans or beer parties to attend I guess, or didn't want to stick around through the afternoon heat. Everyone literally started packing it in, loading up trailers and suddenly there were only 5 riders left for the rest of the afternoon. It spit showers about 3:00pm for a few minutes, dried up minutes later. There were more corner marshalls and ambulance and track personnel than riders, just me, Pat on the red CBR1000RR, Kurt on his Honda 600, and a couple others I didn't know. Talk about having the track to yourself!

I would like to be out there for the 25th, but also the 18th and the 29th. Then next month (August) is the Jason Pridmore track school, 2 days, also the Erico Motorsports trackday and Ricky Orlando school. If I do all of that, I will have used up all my vacation days and be well and truly broke as well. But I am going to try and hit as many days as possible.

But Monday was great fun! A Ducati went around me in turn 9 and promptly blew his engine in turn 10, big cloud of oil smoke right in front of me. He did the right thing and pulled off before oiling down the track. Another Ducati 1198 came into the pits oil bleeding profusely down the fairing, looked like he threw a rod as well. A few guys blew the corner here and there, went off into the weeds but no bikes went down. They've gone to a lot of trouble to pick up all the rocks, if you go off the course you've got a great chance to save it.

I felt very comfortable, ran my fastest laps, grip is good, just a well maintained facility run by motorcycle racers (Glenn Conser and Mike Applehanz), makes for a very fun experience.

Kurt Fritz just moved out here from Virginia, he logged a lot of laps at VIR and was very impressed with HPR.

If you want to hook up, that'd be great. There was somebody out there on a Thunder Gray S1000rr that I don't know and never did get a chance to meet, but there have usually been at least a couple of S1's out there.
