Dunlop Sportsmarts
Where Can I start??
these have transformed my bike...O.k It was running Conti Crapattacks but hey, they are now standard fitment on the S1000RR..but why I'll never know,,except for the German tyre / German Bike connection or that a deal saving lots Euros was done of course
The increadibly soft carcass and hard compound of the Conti's caused so much rebound issues that suspension fettling time was wasted on trying to get a decent result.. fitting the Dunlops on what I though was the best set up on the Contis was ... well... jaw dropping and this opinion I formed within 4 miles of the shop where they were fitted,,,yep ! they really are that good.
it turned the bike into a weapon of cornering destruction I'd not experienced since my 954 blade,,,( oh i miss that bike!)

Also read an article about the SportSmart, which said they are so good. Wanted to have them put on, but alas they are not yet available in SA! :-(

They are excellent tyres - buy with confidence.
So far ahead of the Conti's it's not even funny and feel far more secure than Michelin Power Pures - the Pures always felt vague at the front to me and don't think they suit the S1000 very well.
If you're expecting trackday tyre grip and feedback (Racetec K2 for example) then look elsewhere - the Dunplops are fantastic but they can't perform miracles

How do they compare to K3s? Mileage will obviously be better and I'd assume they're better in the wet, but as I'm starting to do more track riding I think they might be a bit of a compromise.

I think the Sportsmarts are Euro only as of right now. I didn't purchase any yet, I did buy 2 rear Q2's though from the states.

From what I gather, the SportSmart is the USA equal to the Q2, I've just put a set on my Aprilia Dorsoduro and there are many things I like about them, the only thing I don't like about them is they don't feel sticky like K3's or Power One's, but they do stick very well, all in all, it's not because they don't stick as well as the others, it's because the tires are a little vague, running lower pressures like 33F/34R helped a bit, but now the concern is they will wear out faster.
However, on the track this tire will be hard to beat, even the K3 and Power One may have trouble keeping up with Dunlop's home run SportSmart/Q2 tire!

Hi,
I have ridden on Q2 Euro spec (not sure if that is same as USA?) I found they were a good tyre in dry but a little unpredicatble in the wet, when used on track I found that they moved/slide in a predicatble manner.
The K3 well ...its brilliant in the dry, on track excellent but cold days and damp/wet...its not suited too, o.k it'll work but not great.
The Dunlops look like they will be a great all rounder for fast road use and a little touring, but when pushed on track will soon find thier limits, in the wet they offer some of the best grip, only bettered perhaps the Metzler M5, in all other areas, an outstanding tyre,, but I will give more info soon, In a couple weeks they will get a 6day 2000 mile bashing around Europe!
