Question Wet Tyres

Hi,

I've got a trackday coming up and I'm a bit worried as its a bit wet at the moment, so been looking about at wet tyres, but I cant seem to find any the same size as the road tyres I have.

Any advice welcomed.

Pirelli Diablo Rains are great rain tires and come in the proper sizes, but I don't think they're DOT approved. And you'll tear them up if it ends up dry.

Running rains is usually only feasible if you have spare wheels and can swap back and forth at the track.

I'm not aware of any specifically. I've heard of cut slicks being used as inters.

Are you just worried that it might rain on your track day?

Are you looking for track specific rain tires, or street tire that can handle wet day track use?

How many track days have you done?

It's a pretty radical thing to be buying dedicated rain tires for just a run-of-the-mill track day where rain might fall. Rain heavy enough to where dedicated wet shoes would make a big difference doesn't happen very often and rain this heavy is highly unpredictable - this is really something you'd only do if you had extra wheels with rains mounted that you could swap on the spot based on the weather that minute.

I've ridden a lot of wet track days and it's very uncommon to see anyone running rain tires and those that do are usually hard-core racers and professional track-day guys with the huge race trailers and every convenience. Everybody else just slows down.
