Ohlins Cartridges - another opinion
I had Ohlins internals fitted just over a month ago. My bike is track only. I missed the opportunity to get them set up, so I had to run with stock settings for four days on Portimao. They felt much better than stock (which had been set up for me) but clearly were not set right.
Yesterday the legend that is Mick Grant spent some time at Silverstone setting my bike up.
On the rear he left it exactly as it had been set up before. I have been told by a couple of experts that the rear on mine is better than most, but Mick did say it was very difficult to fine tune it because one click made too big a change.
On the front Mick made a lot of changes and I felt the difference after two corners. Glued to the road, very confidence-inspiring but the steering slowed because the front was being held up better. At lunch he dropped the yokes by 5mm and hey presto - perfect (or as near as I can tell).
Having been set up, the Ohlins is leagues better than stock. The front is glued to the road, the movement is much more fluid, it just works and I can forget about it.
Well worth the investment if you find the stock suspension falling short - which you will if you spend time on track.
An instructor approached me yesterday, he sold his S1000RR because he couldn't make it work on track and was not prepared to shell out on new suspension.
