Default Tire change rim damage?

Hi, I just had the rear tire changed for the first time. There is now a flat spot on the rim at the bead for about 10". I think that they must have used a tire machine that damaged the rim a bit. Does this make sense? Should I ask them to replace the rim (and how much does that cost). I had my son drop it off and specifically told them that there was not a scratch on the rim and that was the way I expected it back. What do you think? Do they use machines just to break the bead or also to take the tire off the rim?

They may have bent the rim a rim is about 4to 500 but good luck proving they did it unless they cop too it

you can bend a rim on a tire machine if you use no lube to install it

It looks like the tire iron scratched and in fact flatened the very edge of the rim. Is it normal that they do some damage or should I expect that it is returned without any marks or damage. There is a scratch on the other side as well, likely from some pressure point on the tire changer. Am I expecting the impossible or was this a crap job?

I’m not a picky guy if it's just cosmetics I would not worry about, there again my bike is not a show bike I’m going to beat it a hell lot more than any tire machine could ever do. Maybe show them and ask if they will do your next change for free?

This is exactly why I bought a NoMar tire changer. Tired of paying people to scratch my rims.

I'd make them fix or replace it.

My local tyre fitter scratched the rim on my GSA rear wheel.

I insisted that they either buy me a new rim, or completely refurb the wheel at there cost.

They refurbed it at a cost of £200.

+1 on the NoMar.

If they don't make good on the wheel I'd definitely not go there again!

My son picked it up and it was not on the bike. I dropped off the wheel and new tire and had them mount it. I will go there this morning and insist that they replace the rim. I did not put it back on the bike. They can replace and then sell the old one on ebay or something to recover some of the cost.

It isn't fair that I will have to look at that scratched rim for as long as i have the bike and be annoyed because they didn't exercise proper care in changing it.

They made $25 to change the tire and the rim costs $400-$500, that will make them reluctant to replace it.
