Default New Rubber

So I finally replaced the rear Contisport Attack on the bike today. The baldness of the original tyre crept up on me a bit and I wasn't expecting to have to replace it so soon. That's what all those horses do I suppose!

I only replaced the rear which is why I stuck with the Contisport Attack, otherwise I'd have gone for Michelins which is what I usually run. I must be honest and say that for the way I ride, the Contis have superb grip in all conditions.

I got it done ride in - ride out by Bike Tyres Leeds just off the A64 between Leeds and the A1. I have no connection with them at all but they are a good bunch and the prices were reasonable. £147 fitted and balanced on the bike for the proper 190/55 tyre. Not bad. I noticed they were doing pairs of good old Pilot Powers for £169. If you take your wheels fitting is free otherwise it's £14 for one or £27 the pair on the bike. They have a huge amount of tyre knowledge too which is useful if you're thinking of switching to a tyre you've never used before.

For stock tires, the Contis are not bad at all. I have been quite satisfied with their overall performance so far. My rear tire is now bald and will soon be replaced with a Dunlop Q2.

i love the stock K3 that came on my bike but dame there a lot of money and don't last long at all (2400 miles) i will put a second K3 on the back because the front is still good but as soon as i need both i will go back to the pilot pure's because they last a lot longer due to the harder center. now if they come out with a tire that grips like the K3 but has a harder center it would be the best tire out. i have yet to have the back tire slide on me after its hot and i have pushed it pretty hard

I've gone through three rear Contis now and just switched to the Dunlop Sportsmart, more for a change than any problem with the Contis. For my road riding I must confess that there's not much difference apart from that the Dunlops don't seem as sensitive to tyre wear and seem to last longer.
Incidentally, my BMW dealer was supplying and fitting the rear Continental for £135 all in. Not bad I thought...

Damn! Looks like I missed a trick. The place I went to quoted £137 before ringing back to say that the 190/55 tyre was £10 more than the 190/50 tyre. I used my stealership when changing tyres on my GS because it had tyre pressure monitors and if BMW broke them they'd replace them but I didnt even get a quote from them this time. Ah well.

Just had Sportsmarts fitted myself and early signs are encouraging

I never really got on with the OE Conti's - they were well past their best at 1000 miles (including one track day) but didn't instill the confidence of something like Racetec K2's (my favourite and capable of just as much mileage as the Conti's !).

Michelin Power Pures replaced the Conti's and I was amazed at their longevity (4500 miles including a track day and 'rapid' twisty roads!!) - no issues whatsoever on road but,on track....never had confidence in them (front especially) - a distinct 'vagueness' after initial turn in and I never really knew what the front was about to do

The Dunlop front 'feels' a lot better than both Conti and Mich PP,they warm up fairly quickly and seem to maintain that heat after short stops for fuel etc.

If mag reviews are to be believed they're a fine medium-paced track tyre too - I won't be expecting race tyre grip from them but that's the compromise for someone riding roads AND track

I was very pleased with my Conti SA, the feel has been fine but only got 2k on the first and 2,300 out of the second. So I just got a Conti Race attack since the life can't be that much worse than the sport attacks. I usually get 2 backs to 1 front but my front still seems fine with 4,300 on it, must be due to my fat arse.
Anyone else getting this kind of long wear on their OEM front tires?
