Default Sachs rear shock internals adjustment ?

Hi,
I have found a great set up for me on my S1000RR: for road use only, and my weight at 70kg (154 lbs).
Adjusted rear ride height (eccentic washer), and front & rear preload to get ideal sag, etc. Dampings of front & rear, compression & rebound works great on standard settings.
The ONLY issue is that the rear High Speed Compression damping even at the lowest setting of 1 is still too hard.
Is it possible for a service center to adjust the Sachs rear shock internals so as to ONLY reduce the High Speed compression. And who can do this preferably either in Belgium, Netherland or Germany? Thanks. CTD

Hello,

You can have a look then a phone call to GL Motorradtechnik | Teile für SBK, IDM, TRW Lucas, Showa | Speer Racing und Toni Mang Renndienst mit Motorradzubehör für die Rennstrecke..
They do stock S1000RR shock prep (spring and/or internal). It seems it is a good job. I do not know if they can tune only the high speed compression but you can call them. They are very nice and speak english.
Which kind of track use are you doing? I am French and doing an european gentlemen rider cup which is organized by a German staff within a professional and very nice way. The tracks are Barcelona, Hockenheim, Brno, Mugello...

Hi CTD,

.........Interesting statements,, I am much the same wieght 73Kg usually!,,

I have raised rear ride hieght adjuster and set sag acording to BMW handbook, using those numbers rear 20mm front 14mm ( from memory),, I found I had to wind back the rear shock a lot to get to those figures and the front forks show two rings..

I have played around with damping compression rebound and I too think I have a good set up for roads and a pretty good one for track too, The rear is a little firm but not hard so I was wondering what your numbers are for your set up ?? really stock with rear rebound on 1 ?

Hi bellyboyrr and CTD,

Do you mind sharing your front and rear suspension settings for preload, rebound and compression?

Hi Shasshankmittel .........thats a name!,,?

my 90% road 10% track settings are for UK roads...which means bumpy!

fast A roads Bumpy B roads.. not sure how it is in east coast but my stint riding in L.A last year I reckon these should be ok too,

Important to have sag set correctly before doing any of the following..
Sag as I said earlier is easy using the handbook guidelines..Ive tried it and compared it to using a full race technique set up guide and works fine for most riding on the roads..

My Sag (as per book ) 20mm rear 14mm front, (tip for ease of doing the front use a cable tie)

I have flipped the eccentric ride hieght adjuster to gain the 10 mm to increase turn in rate, there is little lost in stability

Rear shock Lowest screw Rebound is set to 4 (Std is 5)
Top screw Low speed compression is set to 5 (std is 4)
Top Nut high speed compression is set to 5 (std is 6 )

Forks two rings showing on my sag setting if that helps?
top screw Rebound is set to 4
bottoom screw compression is set to 5.

this gives me a reasonably comfy ride and although the rear is firm it does not fling you out of the seat unless you hit a really good bump!
if you find it still is to harsh at the back lower the rebound to 4 or even 3, this will make the back end move around a little but will be,,comfortable.

tyre presures on my Conti SPort attacks, 35 front 39 rear although I am not happy with these tyres they work ok under normal use..

Thanks bellyboyrr, I'll try your settings. The roads here on the east coast are not good and probably your settings might work for me too. Yes..that my name...Shashank Mittal.
