Default Ohlins Drop Ins require Spec tool?

Gents,

Took some advice and had my dealer order a set of the 10.5 Ohlin drop in springs (08792-05). Well they received them and the dealer is saying it takes a special tool they dont have. Kinda worries me, what kind of tool would a dealer not have?

They are checking with Ohlin to see what can be done. Any experience with installing these?

Thanks in advance

William

For Just installing the Drop in springs into the OEM Sachs forks you need two fork tools.
A pull up tool and a spring compressing tool.

Below are pictures of the Special tools, Needed to install an Ohlins Cart kit.

But more important, other than the 17 MM allen socket, all these same tools where needed to install Ohlin25 MM Cart kit and 30 MM cart kits.
If they are missing any, it may mean they have never installed any of these kits.

The tools are:
Cap removal tool. Top 4 pin cap
Damper rod pull up tool, also used for bleeding the cart.
17MM Allen socket
Thin 19 MM open end wrench
The long multi pin tool is for screwing down the inner cart cap.

Would you want someone who have never worked on an S1000RR doing work to it, same thing here.

yea i thought it kinda strange that they did not have the tool also. But, i trust these guys, i just don't think they have ever installed the kit mentioned above. Small, NC dealer.

as to would i want them to do the work. That's tough. They have been a BMW Mottard dealer in the same loc for 20 years or so. BUT, the S1000RR just hit the streets, they don't sell any other sport bikes either......hmmmmm I dont know, it does make me wonder???

I'll give it some more thought. I may just pick the springs up from them and go elsewhere for installation.

Where are u located Dan?

thanks again (got the PM)

William

Dan,
Is it true that with the 30mm kit, to change a spring I should only need the Cap removal tool?
Thanks!

Tools:
Torx bit
14 MM wrench or socket
Thin 19 MM open end wrench
Cap tool
Damper shaft pull up tool

You need to be able to loosen the upper triple clamp pinch bolt.

Torx bolt

Back out all the spring preload

14 MM Socket or wrench

Unscrew the cap

Cap tool

Hold the inner damper shaft and unscrew the cap from the inner damper shaft.
A thin 19 MM open end wrench and the same 14 MM socket or wrench.

Attach the damper shaft pull up tool, remove the thin 19 MM wrench.

Remove the top spacer and then the spring, replace spring and upper spacer.

Pull up on the Damper shaft tool, install the thin 19 MM wrench, remove damper holding tool, install cap on damper rod, remove thin 19 MM wrench.

Screw cap back into fork, tighten triple clamp pinch bolt,

Reset spring preload.

Total time 3 minutes or less. All this is done with the forks On the bike.
