Default Front springs?

I'll be fitting the Öhlins 30 mm cartridges to my bike (FGK212) together with a TTX36. How does the stock springs rate? I'm 210-215 lbs in gear and I would call my driving style medium/hard on the track. Perhaps new springs too?

On a stock bike, the front spring rate will be too soft for you. The rear spring is progressive (not linear), so swapping that out too will yield positive results as well.

I kinda expected the stockers to be too soft so I guess that I'll replace them.

Does the TTX36 for the S1000RR come with a progressive spring or do you mean that the stock unit has one?

Thx

The stock rear spring is progressive... the Ohlins will be a linear (one spring rate) setup relative to your weight etc.

The stock fork springs are 9.5Nmm.

The stock springs will not fit the Ohlins 30 MM cart kit.

So either way you need springs, I would start with 10.0 Nmm

I polish the fork tubes as well, this makes a big difference.

The fork oil level with the 30 MM cart kit is VERY important, the Ohins starting point is too high.

I see, thanks.

I am lucky though as I will get my cartridges and rear shock fitted at Öhlins but it is always good to have a general idea about what to expect, even though they should know best.

Interested in this topic! Just installed the 30mm cart kit and TTX36 rear. I weigh about 230-235lbs geared up. Ohlins recommended 10.5 springs up front for me. They also recommended about 10mL more oil that they listed in their install instructions - this seems contrary to your post Dan. Since I actually do find the front end now to be quite harsh (on bigger bumps on the awful Nor Cal roads, great on small hits like highway seams),Dan I would be very interested to hear more on your suggestion on the oil level. I had considered going back to the installer and having the oil level lowered a little since the front does not feel very plush at all.

Hope these comments are of some relevance to the original poster and apologies if not.

For the Ohlins 30mm fork kit.

What are the target measurements you are setting them up to?

I have the forks at 119.5mm fully extended, wheel off the ground.

Free sag, no rider, typically 5 to 6mm?

Sag with rider, typically 30mm?

Thanks

Greg

I shoot for 38 to 40 MM rider sag.

What do you weight?
What springs are you using?
What oil level are you using?
