Default Race Tire Comments Invited

Ok, we've had several threads about tires and they meander between Street tire commentary to Trackday input....now can we just limit it to race tire input ?

SO TO ALL THE RACERS........what are you running and why ?

Pirelli Slicks, SC3 front and believe it or not on the rear I'll be running their trackday slick. I know I'm not going to get the same grip level as the others on the SC's but I'm a top 5 at best and that was 3 years ago before my crash. These days I'll be lucky to get into the top 10 so the pretender slicks are more then enough for that duty.

All though, I would like to try out they're new 200 series and see what that feels like.

I am using Pirelli SuperBike but I will try the Ntec this year...The Pirelli is really nice but have been told that Ntec tech offers more grip at the exit but feels heavier when turning.

Dunlop's there is NOT a better race tire made!

1st off there 100% real rubber were as most the rest are synthetic rubber compounds, they have great feed back and feel, you can tell what the tire is about to do, unlike Michelin slicks that have great traction until they Don't! and feel vague due to the soft carcass of the tire.

PS> you need tire warmers with Dunlop's or ANY Ntec they make. if you don't heat them you will damage the tire due to the VERY low PSI they need

here is my set after 2 hard days of testing and over 340 miles on the track. the Dots were gone the start of day 2, and the tires never let go or got grease!

*on an aprilia mille
I was running a Pirelli soft front and medium rear slick, they felt good but didn't last long.

I currently have Continental slicks on the bike, my vendor changed brands so I gave them a shot. They feel a lot like the Pirellis, and seem to wear a lot better. I don't think they're a better tire by any means, but I've just been doing track days and not racing the last two years, so **** it.

I hope to be back racing next year, I'm going to try the Dunlops when I do. People seem to like them, and most of the fast guys at my local track are using them.

After running Dunlops on Ducatis for 9 years I tried Pirellis but ended up on Bridgestones. Awesome grip and great wear from both the DOTs and slicks
