Street/Canyon Setup Data So Far...
I decided to post this up hoping it'll help someone out in some small way and of course, discussion!
-Rider 6'2" 225lbs (245lbs with full gear)
-Stock settings were:
-Front Preload: 5 turns out from full hard (11 turn total range)
-Unloaded= 125mm
-Static= 97mm (28mm)
-Loaded (with full gear)= 80mm (45mm)
-Rear Preload: Collar somewhere in the top half of the threads
-Unloaded= 477mm
-Static= 464mm (13mm)
-Loaded (with full gear)= 433mm (44mm)
-Fork height stock (top of upper tube 13.5mm above triple)
-Gearing/Rear Wheel position stock
-Shock mount position stock (low ride height position)
-Damping stock (Front: 5C, 5R Rear: 4LSC, 6HSC, 5R)
-wheelies too easily in 2nd gear (1st waaay too easy), rear swapping under heavy brakes (forks using all travel but do not feel bottoming), heavy steering in the last third of full lean, front feel not 100% but not terrible, finishes turn OK but only under small throttle openings. Overall, not that fun to ride. Also, did not like conti front tire as it did not seem to want to warm up!
-Added 3 turns preload to forks (now 2 turns out from full hard)
-Unloaded= 125mm
-Static= 100mm (25mm)
-Loaded (with full gear)= 84mm (41mm)
-Added 3 turns preload to shock (also flipped shock mount to add ride height)
-Unloaded= 492mm
-Static= 482mm (10mm)
-Loaded (with full gear)= 460mm (32mm)
-Switched to Pirelli Supercorsa SP tires 30F, 30R cold. Everything else still stock.
-Able to keep front down in second if leaned all the way forward, neutral steering all the way to full lean, front feel much better (pretty good actually), rear still busy under the heaviest braking(holding on with knees not arms) but no worse than before (forks using all but a tiny bit of travel under braking), finishes turns better but still room for improvement! Bike is now alot of fun to ride!
-All riding was in Race mode.
So overall I'm happy with how it handles so far! Goes to show what proper initial adjustment can do. Maybe should've done the adjustments before I rode it but couldn't wait!
Looking forward to suggestions/comments/comparisons!

Sounds like you have it set up pretty good. That just goes to show how good it feels when you get the suspension right. I only have about 900 miles on the BMW now. All riding is in the hills/curves. The dealer i bought mine from set suspension for me. I adjusted the rebound and compression(high and low) and number 6 on all of them. Factory recommends 5 for sport use. The owner of the dealership recommended a 6, since I am 215 full gear. It really does feel good. Getting it set for your weight is the most important. Start at recommended factory settings and then adjust to your intended purpose and the feel you like.

Great bike isn't it?
You bought yours 1 day before I bought mine!
What position to you have the shock mount in? Higher ride height or lower? And how far above the top triple is your outer fork tube? I still have the above settings....went for a good hard ride in 75 degree weather today and still love the set up!
However, when I got home I sped the shock rebound up one click so it's now in position 4 (couldn't quite reach the rebound adjuster with the key while I was out riding unfortunately). I sped the shock rebound up for two reasons:
1. As mentioned above, the rear is quite busy under hard braking. A little rear brake helps but I feel like faster shock rebound will help too.
2. On the sipes of my rear tire tread, the center of the tire shows slightly raised leading edges and slightly rounded trailing edges and vice-versa on the side of the tire. As I understand it, Dave Moss says that this means rebound is too slow. I've tried to imagine why the tire sipes would wear like that when the rebound is too slow but I've never really been able to picture it. Can anyone on here put that into simple words?
Anyway, I'll take it out for another good ride tomorrow or the next day and report on how the faster rebound works!

Subbed, however my weight is 150 with gear on, so my pre-load settings are different, but my compression/rebound are 6's all around...

Sipes
I believe the Sipes are the fine grooves that run off from the tread grooves to channel water, among other things.

Sipes are the low parts of the tire tread designed to expel water. All road tires have them (except slicks).

I cannot explain it but indeed a lot of our bikes show this kind of wear on the rear tire (according to Dave Moss). I've seen it twice within the last year on my rear tire (I put 14k plus miles in that year on my bike) and indeed after increasing rebound by one or two notches, it started to wear even and go away. For the record, I run Dunlop Sportmax 2

Yes i do love the bike. I like the numbering on the factory suspension. Really simple to use. The Ohlins suspension on my R1 is nicer but alot more complex to get dialed in. I am not sure what my ride height is. It is whatever the dealer sent it in as. It feels slightly higher than my 2007 R1(Stock Height)...

Well, it took me awhile to get out there; in an attempt to clean off the road, the street sweepers spread fine gravel from the side of the road all over the middle of it! I've been sweeping the corners with a f'in broom the past few mornings
Had a great ride today though! Tons of grip. Faster shock rebound was definitely an improvement. More controllable now no matter how hard I brake in race or slick mode. Also better coming out of turns; it used to do the jerky little slide and catch type thing in the rear but thats now gone. When it does break traction its much less of a slide and feels more controllable. Tire wear is more even but still has slightly raised leading edges. Tires are more than half worn already though (! $). I think I'll try position 3 on the shock rebound next time but it is now very close to perfect for me for this particular road. I need to get this thing on the track!
I've been riding these things a long time and have many different bikes but this is the first bike in recent memory to make me make weird noises and funny faces inside my helmet when riding it! Great machine! I've thrown alot of time and money at a few bikes that were never as good as this one is stock!
