I think it deserves it just for having a 200/55 dual compound rear tire!

That bike is epic from what I read. Price is not epic!

I assume it's because it now comes with APRC as standard which is allegedly better than DTC. The beemer blew everything away but it is now 2 years old so it can't stay on top indefinitely. I'm not on it because it won awards. I am in it for the long haul. I could've bought an RSV4 when I bought the S1k but I chose the S1k because for me it felt like a better bike and I've had zero regrets for doing so.
Don't get hung up on awards. Citroen DS3 has won car of the year awards but you won't catch me in a Citroen!

I just bought my S1000RR and it had come down to this or the Aprilia. One of my riding buddies has one and it is a great bike but, he can't ride it when the temps are over 70F due to how hot it runs and the nearest certified mechanic is 3 hours away. So for my money the BMW is still the number one bike.

I traded my RSV4 in to get this S1000rr, the V4 is an epic bike and sounds even more epic especially when you have an Austin racing GP2 can on it!!
I had several problems with mine including having to have an engine rebuild and lost total faith in it, when it works it is incredible and looks...well.
But far too unreliable and the service & customer support side of it are just as bad IMO.
Im hoping my experince on the S1 is going to be better.
My V4 was pre APRC so i had a Bazzaz system fitted inatead

test drove the '10 rsv4 the day before testing the s1k. the sound and looks went to the ape, but the s1k was just scary fast and the porsches i've had sold me on german engineering years ago. At the end of the day, the main reason i got the s1k is i already had a 2000 aprilia in the garage. couldn't be happier with my decision, but can't say i don't consider one of the new rsv4's if the old mille eats her pigs at some point. fortunately for me AF1 racing is about 40 miles north, so i've got the best ape shop in the country in my back yard if i go that way.

drawbacks i noticed were awful mileage (high 20's for 2010, 30's for '11)compared to the s1k (46mpg), and no antilock brakes. like aprilia says though, racers don't bog down their bike with abs, so not included.

ABS has saved my a$$ twice just in the last few months. If it doesn't have ABS, I'm not riding it.
