Default For ex or current Ducati owners

Do you miss you Ducati? I came off '08 1098 and 'till this day I really miss the b!tch a lot. YES...my S1kRR is a better bike overall and I never had any issues but I really miss the thunder sound of the Duc and the roughness of it.

I've owned every single 1000 from all the japs manufacturer but the Duc really got under my skin...I'm considering in getting a Hyper or even trade the S1k for the Diavel or the SF.

have you got the Ducati blue?

My last Duc was an 860GT and I do not miss it.

Doesn't mean much, but my buddy that just bought a new ZX10R test rode the Diavel last weekend and was quite impressed overall.

On the other hand he did buy a new ZX10R .

We've both owned a few Ducati's in the past, but I could never get past the valve adjustment costs and intervals. My buddy is a factory trained wrench that has his own machine shop at home, and he still won't buy one even though he can do his own shim grinding etc. as it's just too much of a PITA.

Sure you miss it why wouldn't you??? but..the S1KRR is a better all round bike it does not have persona or the following yet??? of the Duc I had the 1198 with full Termi kit was amazing for now...... but wait till the B***H goes tits up and it costs you almost the price of a used liter bike to fix the destroyed motor!!!!! it starts to make sense....I came to my senses but the trick is not to follow your heart because the Duc wins every time I love the S1KRR and pretty soon BMW will start taking podiums!!!!

I still have my Ducs. I ride my wife's S1KRR ocassionally, but I'm an L-Twin, low-end-torque-kinda guy at heart. I like getting my arms ripped out of their sockets when I goose the throttle at 1000 rpms.

funny you guys mentioned the cost and breaking down. I had two (07 and 08)1098 'cause the first one broke down so many times that DNA decided to just give me a new one, but the second didn't have as many problems as the first one. I'm not sure what really is it but damn it...I enjoyed taking short rides on it.....i just can't forget the sound

Ex 1198S owner here.

I do not miss the unreliability.
I do not miss the massive servicing costs.
I do not miss the feeling that it was far too short geared.
I do not miss the pointless 1st gear.
I do not miss the gear lash when trying to accelerate below 2500 rpm (that's 1/4 of the rev-band rendered useless).
I do not miss the 'it's all over by 9500rpm' engine.

However:

They look pretty.
The brakes are fantastic.
It's the only bike I've owned or ridden that has so much 'mechanical' grip that it will wheelie in second and third gear whilst leant over on track.

I don't miss it.

Overall, the S1000 works better in so many more ways

Plus one on the all the above I thought I would miss mine and that maybe I'd made a bad descission...its not the case...and mine is still restricted to 9K...cant wait to cover the rest of the breakin...plus the beemer is way kinder on your body/wrists..especially for us oldies!!!

Some people just don't like a twin engine and some people don't like an inline 4. You don't buy a Ducati for practicality, you buy it because of passion. It mostly draws an older crowd.

The torque is amazing.

I can honestly say the 916/999/1098 all still look beautiful in my eyes, whereas a lot of other bikes look dated after a year or two.

They are cool bikes for sure.

I've had my #242 of 500, Ducati 1098 R since new, April of '08.

I love the " Red Beast ! "

I kind a think I know what it must feel like bing on one of those Rocket Sleds.

I mean the acceleration is unreal .

I almost can't stay on the bike when I twist the throttle in 2nd ...and I weigh w. gear on 270 lbs.!

With the Race Exhaust and Dedicated ECU I'm putting out 101 lb.ft. of Torque. ( the S 1000 RR about 82.5 lb. ft.)

Plus the 1098 R weighs according to Ducati , dry 364 lbs.

I have 6500 miles on the bike and other than a VR that melted ( design flaw ) to close to the exhuast , put in a new one w. some shielding, no problem in 1 1/2 years since.

I've had not mechanical issues.

I had the 7500 mile service done in November since the bike would be needing it this riding season plus it's over 2 1/2 years old so I needed to replace the belts and the valves were checked and right in spec.

I went ahead and had all the Fluids changed and whatever else gets done for a 7500 mile service so it's ready to go as soon as the damn Winter decides to leave.

It's an Icon.

The Homolgation of the bike that Troy Bayliss won his last WSBK Championship on.

I may never sell #242.

I've never tracked it , but I have my own 150 mile track through a National Forest.

I definitely dig my S 1000 RR, I ride it more than the 1098 R.

It is much easier to ride fast , and as they are both stock as far as the Suspentions, the S 1000 RR to me handles much better.
