Default Off Road Helmet Cam Video

This is me riding this last weekend at an area in Moab, UT called Behind the Rocks. I am sorry for video quality. It was shot with a GoPro camera, but I had it on high def, so I had to condense this 15 minute segment a lot to get it on YouTube.

The area is very rock and sandy. What you don't get a feel for in the video are the cliff drops that I am going down and the size of the rocks! This area is exactly 12 miles south of the center of Moab on HWY 191. We used to race mountain bikes on the same exact trail. The mountain bike race is still held and is called the "24 Hours of Moab".

Nice vid, thanks for sharing! I've done rock crawling in my Jeep out there, mountain biked the 24 Hours, and run my old KTM through there. Probably my favorite off road spot in this country. You are a lucky guy to live so close!

Are you on a Honda 250 thumper? If so how often are you having to do valve jobs?

The sand dunes and sandy roads beyond looked like a LOT of fun!

The bike is a Honda CRF450R. The valves have held up well. I am getting a service in 10 hours where I will have spacing checked again.

Yes, the sand dunes are fun, but you just sink right into them. The sand is very fine.

The 24 hours of Moab was one of my favorite MTB events. Haven't done it now for 5 years. Converted to road cycling and MTB only occasionally.

An interesting story about the ride the day after this one.

So, it is early in the morning. Wife and kids are still getting up from bed. I tell them that I am restless and need to go let out some energy. We had a family ride planned for 1:00PM. So, at 10:00AM, I am out riding the same loop which is about 18 miles long. This time, I decided to blast out two loops really quick for a good workout. I get done, ride my bike on to the trailer, reach down for my keys and realize that both keys and wallet are gone!!! I had lost them somewhere on the loop. This is where I made my biggest mistake. I called my wife. IF YOU EVER DO SOMETHING STUPID, DON'T CALL YOUR WIFE!!!

So, my wife arrives in a taxi with gas and her keys to the car. Taxi $21, her time, PRICELESS! So, second biggest mistake... "I will just go around one more time REALLY SLOW and look for the wallet and keys. Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes." Well, I exaggerated, actually took about an hour and a half. The kids were OK, but my wife, she was definitely NOT OK. So, I didn't find my wallet or keys. This is where Facebook really sucks.

So, long story short. I arrived back at home, 214 miles from where I lost my keys and wallet. I am watching TV when the doorbell rings. To my complete amazement, it is a great guy, who found my wallet and has returned my wallet to my home! Now, I need to pay it forward...
