Default Best Video Editting Software?

I just purchased a GoPro camera. Without breaking the bank and having a masters in video editting, what is the best mid range software to buy? Allowing me to do transitions, edit music easily, just the basic stuff plus a little more. I haven't messed around with my Windows program yet, but that might be sufficient too. What is everyone using?

If you are on a mac
Final Cut

If you are on Win

Sony Vegas Pro
Adobe premiere
Pinnacle Studio

I have them all and they place nice with the GoPro once you convert them out of that raw format.

Haven't used the ones mentioned above... but when I bought my GoPro HD, I also got Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 and have been very happy with it.

Final cut express is a nice product for Macs. Good price compared to the Pro version

Those two are advanced programs and take a lot of learning to use. I suggest just stick with something simple. Windows movie editor is able to do what you want and it's FREE.

Does it convert also? I can't remember why, but I ended up purchasing AVS4YOU which came highly recommended when I started using my GoPro. I think it may have been because of the slow conversion times I was getting with other programs. I wasted my money because it converts just as slow as the free-ware.

Standard windows movie maker cannot read the encoded mp4 file gopro uses without converting it to avi; however, windows live movie maker can open the file just fine.

Here is the download link:

I'm fairly computer savy so I'm thinking I can figure out most semi-advanced things. I want to be able to do some cool stuff. Maybe I'll go into Best Buy and let them do their best pitch and come back and research

There are many tutorials for both and you can see the them on youtube and such. It's just if you are going to buy them, they both have a big price tag with them.

If you are proper savvy you will be running a Mac and the best choice for a smallish budget is Final Cut Express.

Bin the Win rubbish...
