I'm a 58 y/o male in pretty good physical shape. I quit smoking a few months back. I had a full blood work-up last month and all areas (colesterol, etc.) were in the "pretty damn good" range. Chest x-ray was fine. So, I was feeling pretty good........Went and had a damn heart attack last Thursday

. Wound up with 2 stints in my arteries.....one 99% blocked, the other 95% blocked. Absolutely no family history of heart problems. All my relatives have lived into their 80's. All they can figure is that the smoking was responsible for this. The rest of my heart is in great shape (and my lungs too), but I'll have to take meds the rest of my life to keep the stints from becoming blocked. Doctor's said it was a miracle I didn't have the "BIG ONE" that would have been "final".
Please, if any of you have any of the risk factors for heart problems...smoking, high colesterol, extra weight, etc.......get yourself checked out!
I had no hint, but I should have done a stress test I guess. That was the most painfull thing I have ever gone through! I crashed a bike a few years back and broke all my ribs and split the sternum......the pain was child's play compared to a heart attack!
Just think about this and make it a New Year's resolution to get checked out if you may have any of the risk factors.
