crf 450X to compliment s1000rr

I am looking at buying an 08 (i think) crf 450x to replace the s1000rr as my daily driver at least in the winter months. I was wondering if any of you have experience with this bike or would sugest something differnt. everything I see seems to sugest it is high maintenance machine, probaly not well suited to being a daily driver. and for what its worth work is 4.5 miles from the house so were not talking a long ride.

for a light weight dual sport that has real road ability I find the WR250R to be great. fuel injection, 370 watt alt. true 80mph (gps) speed ability steel subframe so you can carry a passenger (or luggage) sub 300 lbs

Buddy of mine has an '08. He doesn't seem to have any issues and doesn't take an excessive amount of maintenance. He's removed the lights and so forth and it is a full on trail bike.
