Default disc fusions

Back in 2006 I had a nasty high side at Road America. The result was 2 herniated discs C6 and C7. At the time only the C6 nerves were causing me problems so they fused the C6. Since then I was pain free for the most part until 3 months ago. Long story short I was working on my daughters car and now my C7 is herniated worse. Iv'e been doing pain management but, it's not working and am now considering fusing the C7 also.

Does anyone have these or 2 disc in their upper back fused and how does it affect your ability to ride? Do you have enough flexibility left to get in a full tuck with a helmet on and still be able to look in front of you? How about pain did it cure the pain in your arms and back?

Thanks in advance.

Default Fusion

I had C6 and C7 fused together in 2000. I have no issue riding hard and in a full tuck. I sometimes get a little "ghost" pain and my neck still does hurt on rare occasion which is most likely neighboring areas still deteriorating. The surgery was well worth getting my quality of life back. Doc told me that I would gain flexibility as I healed (did happen) and that there was a strong chance that I would have issues above or below the fusion in the future seven to ten years. Still doing well at twelve years out!

Thank you for the response from someone that is dealing with the exact 2 discs. I am 50 and in great shape. I workout 3-4 times a week lift and aerobic. But, right now it's to painful and my right arm goes numb. I have had 2 cortisone shots and they have not helped. I am tired of not being able to live my normal active life.
