Hot exhaust & burnt legs

Ouch!!

I got stuck in traffic for two and a half hours on Washington, DC's infamous I-495 last Friday and got home (finally) with mild burns on my left leg. (Yes, I was wearing protective gear). The uncomfortable injury was inflicted by the extreme heat wafting up from the catalytic converter.

I'd like to find a solution to this problem before I can afford to buy a full aftermarket exhaust system. Any ideas, fellas?

Many thanks!

Move to Cali and split lanes.

I don't care if you hate it. I LOVE IT.

Hey - THAT's an idea! Unfortunately, the traffic stream was inching along at very slow walking speed with frequent but brief stops. The temperature gauge kept creeping up toward 230-degrees, rising even higher when I did shut down the engine a couple of times.

Lane splitting was tempting, but lanes were being changed and doors opened by cage drivers at an alarming rate.

In Italy -- from which I just returned a couple of weeks ago -- the bikers simply employ the opposing lanes, sometimes running cars onto the shoulder.

What kind of gear were you wearing? Leather pants? Full size boots? Where did you get burned?

Have not seen a bike yet with + 150HP that won't roast you while sitting in traffic.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but im having the same problem. Im from Hawaii and i have horrible burns on my legs and i wear thick jeans when i ride. This is the only bike to ever burn my leg. I havent rode the bike for a while and am left with scars. Im soon going to be calling BMW. My family member is an attorney and is telling me to take it to court...
