Default Slick Mode Plug - Installation

Hey Guys,

It's raining here today, so I torn the seats and upper skins off to have a look-see and plan my Scorpio alarm wiring and placement, install my slick-mode plug, a drop sensor, and a Battery Tender adapter.

I learned from my dealer today, that BMW is not planning on a DVD or repair "REP-ROM" for this bike. Apparently they aren't doing it for dome of the new "F" series either. We'll see. Anyway, since BMW has a minimal set of directions and pictures, I thought I'd share my installs with you.

This is about the Slick-Mode plug.

First, for your amusement, a picture with no seats and no tank covers.

Here is the plug connector. It is under the front seat on the left side of the gas tank. The connector is just zip-tied to a post - meaning the connector itself is not otherwise connected to it (more on that later).

Here is the connector with it's protective cover snipped away from the post.

And here is the connector with it's protective cover removed.

Here is looking down the actual plug. Ooooh scary! Look, the plug is red. No doubt this is trouble.

Now here is the plug in the connector.

And here is a collar that goes on the post and holds the plug.

Here is the coller on the post.

And finally, here is the plug on the collar.

Tada,... that's it.

Thanks for all of that ... It looks easy . And how easy is it to remove the seat to do it ? You dont need to touch the panel on the tank .

yep that easy, took me a minute to figure out I need to cut the zip tie and loosening the side panel made it easier to get too. makita torque driver with an extension makes zipping out the screws a breeze

The seat removal is a PITA. No, you don't have to touch the tank with anything dangerous. The screws at the rear are long, the bracket that holds the two screws is too close to the rear panel, but scratching the panel itself is probably not too big a deal with the seat brackets. It's more an issue with the torx screw driver you may be using. The angle is obtuse. When the seat is down, any dings you may cause on the bottom of the rear panel will probably be covered by the seat. It's just a damn tight squeeze, so anything you do down there, you want to minimize the number of times you do it.

Yeah, that was the only trick. Your owners manual doesn't mention that at all, and I looked and looked at the post with the connector and then back to read the manual trying to figure out how to "unlock" the connector as they say. Finally decided, "hey, I got zip-ties", then just cut the zip-tie and then found the connector lock on the front of the connector. Cheesh.

Zer fadder-land ish minimalist wif der instructions.

That concerns me. I want to get a hold of a wiring diagram.

I found this from another post:

Quote:
For note on installation see the RSD (Repair & Service Data BMW Motorrad) service-data DVD.
Here is the document.
So is it available or isn't it?
