I used the
No-Mar tire changer. The changer was attached to the hitch of my van. No-Mar has an excellent video that explains the process. I basically transcribed the video into the attached step-by-step so that I could print it out and look at it while I changed the tires. The instructions that follow are for tire removal.
No-mar Tire Change
Tire Removal.
1. Get gloves and eye glasses on.
2. Remove chain sprocket from cush drive. Check wear on rubber and replace as necessary.
3. Take old weights off. Use glue remover (denatured alcohol) to take out residue.
4. Remove valve stem core with a core remover (be careful; valve stem core may pop out on you) and place aside for reuse. Tire is now deflated.
5. Move the rear block at the 12 O’clock position to the yellow dot (it should have been on the third hole if the yellow dot is the first hole).
6. Place your wheel on top of the block, rotor-side down. Rotors “float” without touching anything.
7. Use the lever to break the beads all the way around, rotating the wheel as you go along. Maintain control over the tire by pressing your waist/crotch area against the tire as you use the lever.
8. Flip the tire, get sprocket-side down and rotor-side up, and repeat step 7.
9. Move lever out of the way.
10. Remove the wheel and move the rear block back to where it was (3rd hole if 1st hole is marked yellow). Rotate the block if needed and let it fall into place.
11. Place the wheel on the blocks, rotor-side down.
12. Push the bottom rim of the wheel against the block at the 12 O’clock position and then slide the rim of the wheel into the LHS block.
13. Push the wheel into the cam and rotate lever to lock wheels into place.
14. Use spray lube and lube the edges of the tire near the rim. Idea is to allow the spray lube to seep into the drop center of the wheel and cause less friction.
15. Fix a (black) hand clamp (accessory) on the rim by pushing down on the tire, at about 3 O’clock.
16. Use the tip of the mount/demount bar (MDB) and slide it between the tire and the rim at an angle starting at about 7 to 8 O’clock position. If needed, use a second hand clamp and fix it at the 1 O’clock position to make it easier to use the tip of the MDB.
17. Then straighten the bar up and pull the bar out to get the tip of the lobe over the rim while you collapse the other end of the tire.
18. Just lift the tire lobe over the rim and then remove the hand clamps.
19. Drop the center post into position.
20. Hold the tire bottom with your left hand and pull the bar, allowing it to pivot around the center post, to get upper half of the the tire off. You pull the bar to take the tire off, and push the bar to get the tire on. Pull off/Push on.
21. Move center post out of the way.
22. Place the tip of the MDB on top of the rim (don’t let the tip move).
23. Lift the tire up.
24. Straighten the MDB to make it vertical to the ground.
25. When the top of the tire bends, the bottom will also bend.
26. Lift the tire up from the bottom and hook the tip of the MDB on the lobe of the bottom tire.
27. Allow the MDB to rest.
28. Drop down the center post.
29. Hold the tire from the bottom to prevent it from rotating.
30. Grab the MDB and pull the second half of the tire off. Voila!
