Default Im thinking of going down the HID route

with 2x55W - is this the best combo?

ive read of LED running lights - are these in addition to the 2x55s?

Where do people mount the ballasts?

I asssume its a straighforward install?

Any good suppliers out there?

Thanks

Trev

Im running 1 3k (yellow) 35W and 1 5k (white) 35W I do not recommend going with 55W, its WAY to bright and will piss off a lot of people. My friend put one on his ninja and no joke it was like a train light.
Ive use DDMtuning for my HIDs had them for years in my truimph 675, BMW s1000rr, my friends R6, ZX10, GSX13 and my chevy truck. Never had a problem with any other them.
I mounted mine with superglue and velcro on the side fairings away from the radiator. But there are other places to mount them also.

I don't ride too much at night, but when I have, I have not had anyone flash me (I'm running 55W HIDs). If you find they do, you could simply adjust your low bean down a little bit.

As far as the LEDs, plenty of folks have installed them, some with errors on the dash, some without. I personally just went to AutoZone and got the little blue tinted hologen bulbs... they glow white but aren't as bright as the LEDs. But if they burn out, they are readily available (and cheap). No dash errors w/them. Pretty sure they were bulb # 168's.

There is a write-up in the Do-It-Yourself section of the forum I believe on installing HIDs. I have both hi and low beams and haven't had any trouble with them. I also put some LEDs for the running lights. You can use any LEDs but you have to have the LAMP error turned off by the dealer. You can't turn it off yourself. OR you can get some "error" free LEDs. Just do a google search for them. Not sure on the size.

I mounted my HIDs on the fairing below the headlights. They are pretty much out of sight except for the wires coming out of the back of the headlight covers. To do it you would remove the whole front fairing all together. It isn't as hard as it sounds. Just remove mirrors, disconnect lights, fairing bolts on the sides and a few underneath, remove four T30 screws that hold the fairing. It should be ready to pull off. Go slow and make sure everything is disconnected. You'll see the spot or spots to put them once it is off. I used double sided tape but you can use velcro too. the good thing about that location is once you get the wires set in there the balasts almost stay in place on thier own.

I am running Pilot brand HID's in the low and high beams. The high beam HID are overkill for the high beams unless you are out in the country with out oncoming drivers. I found that I was off/on on the high beams a lot, which required a restart on the ballast each time. This will shorten the life of the bulbs.
