Default Cox Racing Group Fender Eliminator

So Cox Racing is a local company and I’ve ridden with Mr. Cox himself a few times. After I purchased the S1K he asked if I’d be willing to let him prototype a fender eliminator using my bike as a model and I of course agreed, after all I run his radiator guards and think they are an exceptionally well made product. (In fact while at his shop it was nice to see his crew hand crafting these! There not just banged out in some assembly line! Kind of cool to see some manufacturing left in the states!)

So yesterday we mounted up rev three of the prototype, and the one he believes he’ll take into production. It’s still raw and not anodized, but here are a few pics. What do you think? I’ll tell him I posted here, so here’s a chance to impact the design of a product for our machines.

Here’s the Left side view. I thought he did a great job matching the bend point to the lines of the existing tail section. I’m also sort of impressed with the tab that the LED plate light mounts on. Again fits very well with the stock bodywork.

Here’s the rear view. Nice and tight.

Here’s a picture of one of the mounts. Uses the Stock hardware and the radius fits very well into the tail section. (He split these grommets to make fit up a little faster for the prototyping, I’m told he’ll have the right one in the kit and they will not be split)

Here’s a view of the whole thing. Uses the stock signals, and interestingly he provided a little room for final fit up, so the signals can be rotated a little to make sure they are level on any bike. Not something I’d have thought of myself.

Now I just need to wait until he has some anodized and get the final product on!

What do we think?

Nice looking piece. If he's able to anodize them to match the various bike colors I'd think they'll sell well. Many may not agree with this little nit pick, but I like to use all four bolts to hold down my license plate, rather than have the bottom hang past its mounting bracket. I'm a fan of the Watsen turn signals, and perhaps Mr. Cox could consider an optional version of this nice plate holder without the mounting tabs for the stock turn signals? Might have to arrange for some other bend to keep the plate holder rigid and not vibrate too much.

If the plate holder is as nice as his radiator guards, it'll be a winner!

Andy definitely makes a first-rate product. I've used his guards on my Tuono, Superduke and RSV4 and have been completely satisfied with the fit and finish, not to mention the thought which has gone into the mounting for the guards.

He's a really nice guy to boot, and does a ton for the local community by mentoring riders via the Doc Wong clinics.

I'd like to see the metal continue from the mount on the tail down the sides to make the whole thing appear more like a wedge. This would hide and protect the wires running from the tail to the lights and clean up the look even more.

Not sure what is going on with the pics? Still clear for me and others can see them??? PM Me and I’ll email if you want.

Swung by the shop yesterday and worked with Cox for a bit. I suggested the “Wedge” idea and Andrew pointed out that he’s narrowed the profile of the turn signals and if he does the wedge idea they’ll stick out quite a bit further. I have to agree, he got the looks right. Signals are far enough out to be noticeable, but don’t dog ear off the side of the bike. It’s a struggle to figure out what to do with the wires, there’s not a LOT of length to work with.

He also did a little massaging on the tab at the top, added a little space to see if it held better, and cut a prototype of a tab to come back up and pick up the third mount hole, which I thought was sexy, but he wasn’t sure he liked.

How about a price and availability?

Don't have an answer on either.

I know the machine is set up to stamp the metal now so it wouldn't take long to produce a batch, then he'd need to get them anodized and shipped to distributors. I dont kow what that takes. I think you can order direct, but doubt the part is on his website yet.

Based on guard price he'll be competative with what is out there.

Plate angle is a bit steep for law enforcement, should be a tad bit flatter.

Actually doesn’t look as steep when you looking at it, so I guess the camera adds a few degrees too? Who Knew?

Angle is adjustable, within reason, again, blinkers will still be level.

On a side note, you'd think it would be easy to find a reference to what angle the plate needs to be at relative to the ground. Not so much. "Readable by law enforcement and the public" is the only thing (we found) in the Oregon code. Seems a bit ambiguous. Which makes for an easy pull over but also easy to beat the fine. I myself prefer to never get pulled over.
