Default Color Rite - horrible products

I purchased a touch-up stick after I low-sided, hoping to easily touch-up some minor scrapes. The paint was horribly thin & spilled out of the applicator on several occasions. Coverage was insufficient, so I let the 1st coat dry overnight. When I went to apply a second coat, the applicator removed the initial coat. I had to remove everything and am now trying to apply with a small brush.

Don't waste your money on their products.

In order for paint to stick the area has to be prepared properly, no? Even a "touch up" stick needs a proper surface for the paint to bond to. It is not going to stick to a surface that has clear coat on it--which your bike does--or any previous polishing/cleaning residue from spray and clean products. My recommendation is to follow the instructions--if you have not, if you have I apologize and ignore this entire post.

I sanded down to the black ABS (or whatever type of plastic comprise our fairings).

I can't imagine a primer is needed (the app on the site didn't specify one either).

If applying more than one coat, I'd recommend waiting 3 days between coats, unless you recoat right away (I mean 'right away'). I was painting my race bike after it incurred some dents/dings/cracks/etc. from a get-off at the track. I got a little impatient and after the paint dried (so I thought), I put more on... talk about a "wrinkle" finish Had to strip it all back down - which absolutely SUCKED! It taught me the hard way that you need to take your time w/stuff like that!

Whoa! Three days between coats is a bit much, D. 15 to 20 minutes between coats (is that what you meant by "right away"), and a few days after clear coat before rubbing and polishing should do the trick. Or at least that's what I've been doing with pretty good results.

Also, IMO, color sticks don't work well unless it's a really minute fix. You're much better off with a rattle can...spray some into a small cup and then use a soft brush or foam brush to apply the paint to the damaged area. If it's exposed to potential fuel spills, etc., then you may need to apply a dab of clear coat.

^That is what I wound-up doing.

The stick works 'OK' on very small chips/scratches, but not well on anything larger.
