You can also just loop them around the subframe where the pegs used to be. There is a cross section that will keep the strap from moving to the rear and effectively keeps it in place. When I ride without mine I will usually just tuck the strap snaps in behind the rider's seat and they pretty much will stay there. Even if they come out they don't dangle far enough to hit the wheel or any moving parts.

If it's the BMW tail bag, those straps are sewn into a loop....I have a set of race hooks as well and when I put the pack on, I use a carabiner to link the race hook into the sewn loop of the strap. If you don't have race hooks...I'd just throw the pegs back on when I needed the tail pack.

yes I've got the tailbag and no pillion pegs, yes the front straps go thru the subframe, but I foudn the only way to stop the bag creeping forward on the first bump in the road is to do this:

Tail bag creep

A piece of that grippy rubberized stuff to keep area rugs from sliding on hardwood works very well and won't scratch the tail section paint. Easiest solution I've found thus far for the "creeping tailbag syndrome."

Sorry, A.B.--I must have missed that. Perhaps I didn't have the pack heavily loaded enough or ride long enough to truly test the grippy stuff. I'll check it out this weekend. Thanks!
