Default Lightech axle slider FYI

Installed some mods over the weekend that consisted of:

Hotbodies DB smoke windshield
Lightech chain adjusters (this particular item courtesy of forum sponsor Riders Discount. Thanks TJ)
Lightech swingarm spools
Lightech frame sliders
Lightech axle sliders
AFAM 16 tooth front sprocket
Lightech steering stem nut/cover

Everything turned out pretty good, however if anyone is considering the Lightech axle sliders be advised that they are installed via a self securing nut/washer system, which I have my doubts about. Other systems use a rod that goes inside the axle which appears to be a better idea. Furthermore the hardware supplied for the front is too small to fit snugly inside the axle cavity, which means that they can't be tightened enough to stay secure. In short they are are useless. The rears fit OK, albeit on opposite sides from what the directions stated. I may try and find a bigger washer setup to get the fronts secured properly, if not I'll go with an all black Delrin setup up front, like the ones made by Fast Bike...

The red turned out well on the TG IMO.

Did you get the black absorber that goes behind the puck of the frame sliders?

I didn't at first and recently acquired them in black to suit my taste and I think it goes with TG better.

Well after removing the left slider I noticed the aluminum washer/insert that the bolt sits against had a small crack. I was kinda disappointed as I had torqued these to spec. When installing. It'd probably be a pain to get that piece alone and I'm not buying an entire set.

No, I went with the red, I thought about blacking the bike out, but IMO the red highlights make a nice visual statement if done tastefully...sucks about the insert. I torqued mine down to 56nm and didn't have a problem...

A note on the sliders- There is not a lot of depth before a slide would be grounding the bolt and possibly damaging the frame. They look good, and may help in a tip over, but not much else. I don't race, so a 150 mph slide is not my concern, but a tip over is, and if I slide at 70 on the street, I'm getting a new bike anyway...here is what a 90 mph slide did to my R1's sliders

*update* for anyone shopping sliders.

Decided to ebay a set of Korean made sliders by a company called Razor Motorcycle components. Must say I'm very impressed with the quality and they look really good...they are expensive though. Parts have a nice weighty feel and fit together well. It's obvious they were engineered for this application...the opposite of the Lightechs I purchased originally. I particularly like the way the body of left side slider covers the axle nut. Check em out...
