Default Carbon Fiber Plate bracket

I'm attempting to make a carbon fiber plate bracket out of 3/32" plate I had laying around. I'd like to bond/fasten two appropriately sized pieces to form an L .Any suggestions on what to use for a bonding agent that won't stick out like a sore thumb but still be strong? My initial thought was some form of epoxy but I figured more heads would be better than one for a final solution.

Do you mean joining the edges to make an L in cross section ? Depends on the application but if your bracket is going to be under any load I would not bother attempting this as you are unlikely to get a strong result.

Holy Smokes!!! finally a reply!!!

Yes I do mean to join the edges to form an L. It'd be dampened somewhat by the stock bolts with rubber washers.I don't expect load as in weight bearing, but I do expect vibration which I think would be tolerable by the joint(for how long is another question). I picked up some clear drying 2 part epoxy from my local hardware store just last night and am going to make an attempt whith that.Worst case scenario,I loose my plate and have to go to DMV for a new one .

I would use this:

Carbon Fiber Angle

I would not trust epoxies based on the vibration factor. I would bolt these onto the flat section you are planning to use w/locktite.

This sorta defeats the purpose of using whatever he has laying around!

If you're worried about vibration, back the joint with a layer or two of epoxy-saturated fiberglass. You can also try one of those clay-like epoxies like Water Weld. You'll need a very rough surface for either method to work reliably.

It just so happens what I have laying around came from dragonplate so not trying to spend more just to get the L....

Thanks. I was actually thinking of using a couple of small zip-ties to reinforce the area if the epoxy fails.

I'd probably try it with your original epoxy idea for as tidy an appearance as possible. The license plate will still be screwed to the bike, so the most you have to lose is a few scraps of CF.

Good luck! If it works out, post a pic.

Actually the plate is gonna be screwed to CF. It's gonna be simple and possibly not too pretty but once done i'll post a pic. Waiting for my watsen's to come in that I ordered about 4 weeks ago.

Now, the Watsens will be pretty! So no one will even notice if your plate bracket is a bit dodgy! Good luck again.
