Default Cleaning stock exhaust

Ok, I've finally got to ask. This may seem petty. I'm still running the stock exhaust (which I like), but the end of the can has started to yellow noticably and plain ol car wash soap isn't cleaning it up.

Can anybody recommend something that will remove the external buildup without harming the finish in any way? Asking for things you have tried, not products you know of third hand, and nothing abrasive. I'm guessing it is a bit of exhaust carbon or burn-off byproducts.

I was thinking of a little kerosene or tar remover products. What do you think?

Spray with WD-40, clean with a Scotchbrite pad, spritz with cleaner of choice to knock off the WD-40. Takes seconds, works on the collector/cat section just as well.

Chrome/aluminum polish works fine too, but I just used the method described last night.

Autosol, paste or white liquid. Both are safe on chrome or metal. I prefer the liquid because it's easier but they both work. $10/tube or bottle.
