Default Project S1000RR

My new S1000RR currently with 17 miles on it. Body work off for custom paint. Figured I would start a build thread showing progress along the way. I actually started working on this build a couple weeks ago and there have been many late nights so far. I hope to have it together by the warm weather, which is right around the corner!

So upon deciding to get your bike painted some might go looking for a reputable body and paint shop - or - one could raid the local BMW Dealership (with permission of course) for scrap lumber from the crates the motorcycles are shipped in, to build a spray booth to DIY. Lumber was free, but it took a bit of time to remove all unnecessary nails, staples, and braces.

And yes, those avatar shots are from Sandia Motorsport Park!

So after getting past the initial shock of taking 400 grit wet or dry sandpaper to a brand new factory paint job, the bigger mods began. I have decided to omit the high beam headlight all together, 8 hours of Suzuka style. I wanted to use like plastic for the filler plate. It turns out the side cover of a R75 has the needed body curve for an ideal filler plate and is made of like ABS (thanks Ben), so the cutting began.

What is your ultimate goal if I may ask?

My goal is a tastefully done S1000 that won't get lost in the crowd, and that is true to BMW's long Motorrad heritage. A streetbike mainly, but it will see 4-5 trackdays a season.

I just hate pulling up somewhere and the only difference between my bike and 4 others is the color of the upper triple clamp nut or a carbon fiber chain guard.

A magazine feature would nice as well! It will take a lot to get there so we'll have to see about that.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. What color are you going to paint it?

Will be watching this thread - been doing an endurance-style conversion of my bike over the winter, my friend's just completed his ZX6R. been considering ditching the high-beam also, excited to see your outcome. Also looking for Harris to do a quick-release rear wheel conversion.
