With the rider in a full tuck, perforations on the chest are of little effect, so Alpinestars uses the sides of the torso and the upper arms to address this issue. In addition to the perforated leather, the stretch material on the underside of the arms also helps support the very effective cooling properties of the suit. Not only does the air get into the suit as the rider moves down the track, but the perforations flanking the torso help draw sweat and moisture off of the rider for a comfortable ride.
To deliver cooling air to the upper back, the MX-1 Alpinestars suit relies on these hard plastic shoulder protectors. With this design, it possible to safely deliver air to the upper back without sacrificing the integrity of an extremely vulnerable area of the suit.
