We also have these suits in blue …

… and black in stock and ready to ship.

Shoulders have always been a difficult area of the suit to effectively cover and compromises between abrasion resistance (safety) and movement (comfort) must be taken into consideration. Alpinestars effectively addresses this with their patented high-modulus thermoplastic shoulder protectors. Now, because the shoulder is well protected, designers are free to stitch the area below in the way they want for maximum flexibility and enhanced comfort. Furthermore, these covers not only improve abrasion resistance, but they also help dissipate impact energy over a larger area making crashes less traumatic for the surrounding tissues.

Best of all, in the comfort department at least, these shoulder protectors allow a high degree of ventilation to occur where it would otherwise be totally unsafe.

The main seams within the suit are assembled using Alpinestars multiple-stitch construction techniques. This method works in two ways; first more rows of stitching provide increased seam strength and second, most of the stitching is hidden away from the area that would be exposed to the pavement in a sliding crash. Both of these properties increase the suit’s (and the riders!) survivability. The seam in the center of this picture is located just below the accordion stretch panel on the lower back.

Specially-sewn leather accordion stretch panels are built into the suit behind the shoulders, at the lower back, above the kneecaps and just above the elbows allowing almost total freedom of movement on the bike or in the paddock.

The knees articulate well thanks to the accordion leather design allowing you to move around on the bike uninhibited by the suit.

It’s a thankless job for the leather accordion stretch panel at the lower back, but any rider would instantly notice if it were missing. Crouching into a tuck is made effortless thanks to this design.

A large dorsal hump improves aerodynamic efficiency, enhances the cooling of the rider’s back side and adds a degree of impact protection.

A look inside the hump reveals a hollowed-out foam structure that has holes in the top to let air into the suit through the fenestrated upper hump portion.

The MX-1 suit comes with a Alpinestars Bionic Race back protector at no extra charge! You can wear the back protector like a traditional unit or you can snap it into place using one of the three button snaps sewn into the suit so it’s ready to go when you are. Simply adjust the kidney belt after you get into the suit and get on your bike!

Instead of choosing the front of the MX-1 to bring air into the suit, precision die-cut perforations are located on the both sides of the abdomen. In this way, warm air and its moisture are pulled off the sides of the body. This seemingly indirect approach is actually quite effective since more air passes over the sides of the body when the rider is in a full tuck than would be able to get to the chest.

This same approach means that the bicep areas are perforated while the forearms are not.

The upper thighs are also perforated.

For those of you with large calves, a zipper function prevents the constriction of blood flow to the feet which could lead to cramping and reduced rider control.

The MX-1 comes out of the box featuring Velcro-closure pockets on the chest that are fitted PE foam padding. We recommend that this be upgraded with a pair of Bionic Chest Guards from Alpinestars for maximum impact protection.

Inside the knee, a two-piece CE-certified GP Protector provide three different layers of impact attenuating armor that won’t inhibit flexibility. The shin guard and the knee cap are covered by separate but matched armor to afford a high degree of movement and an even higher degree of protection. The shin and especially the knee are surrounded over a large area on the sides to reduce impact forces felt by the rider in the event of a crash.

Alpinestars GP Protector armor consists of dual-density impact absorbing foam on the side that faces the rider which is fixed within an injection-molded housing that spreads impact forces over a large area. For the best possible protection, every piece for the shins, knees and elbows is specific to either the left or right side of the body. Notice also the articulated design which allows freedom of movement without sacrificing safety.

Other areas of the suit include foam padding that is sewn into place for added protection like these for the back.

Here’s a look at the same protectors from the inside.

Another aspect that would otherwise go unnoticed, the removable mesh liner features foam armor sewn in on the shoulders and the hips.

Ever had a suit that chafes around the openings? This can be slightly annoying at best to downright distracting at the worst – something no rider needs. The MX-1 leather suit addresses this concern with soft neoprene cuffs around the wrists.

Same goes for the collar which is leather on the outside and comfortable neoprene where it faces your neck.

Call Riders Discount before the suit that fits you is sold out for good!
