Default Trackday surprise....

Turned up at Donington tues 16th Aug booked in 3rd group. Consider myself about mid expert, nothing special, but these riders were coming past me as if i were going backwards............Turns out there were some bsb boys out there testing Sheeeet, was a real eye opener to be amongst it, watching them spinning up on the way past Bit daunting at times, especially the little shits on the 125's with the corner speed Good/bad experience !!

A couple years ago, I was working a corner for a track day group. I could tell which group was out on track simply by judging their speeds.

The local track guru, Ty Howard, was passing the fast group as if they weren't even there. It was crazy. I can only imagine how it would have been on the track.

Been there myself - passing people in fast group, thinking you're 'on it' then you get a taste of real speed and talent up the inside making you look like a total muppet.

The real humbling experience is when you look up the riders name and realise they're down in 20th in some club championship you've never heard of.

I think it's great and keeps your feet firmly planted.

No matter how fast you are, someone's faster (well for all but one of us)! Just enjoy.

Hahahah, humbling for sure and a real eye opener. I remember hitting the track for my first AMA experience and thinking "what the hell have I gotten myself into!"

No kidding, but what is it that makes these guys so much faster?

What do they have, or what are they able to do differently than us that make them THAT FAST?

I think a good part of it is finding your (and the bikes) limits. There are certainly other things too, but I'd have to think further and right now, this is what came to mind I find that if I'm following someone (better than me) on the track and I see their entry speed, I think to myself - if they can do it why can't I. Once I do it, I then expect that is now the new normal and anything less now starts to feel slow (or at least slower)... whereas if you had gone back prior to that, I would have felt like I was pushing my limits... when in essence I wasn't near them (physically). This sport (like most others) is a LOT in the mental arena. Sure you have to have skill, but the mental side is often over looked.

Now for the Misti question - what can we do to strengthen our mental abilities

I've been there as well. Niall McKenzie on a brand new, 0 miles bike at Oulton park.
Came past me like I was in reverse, and he looked like he was cruising :-/
