Default Trackday Insurance Coverage?

I was with Nationwide last year and they just changed their policy so that it doesn't cover any high speed track use. Some friends were with State Farm in a neighboring state and said their policies changed, too. State Farm excluded track use in my state two years ago.

I'm not too concerned about property damage coverage. But I must be concerned about liability insurance. I've got a small business, so I have to worry about getting sued and 6 people being put out of work.

Anybody have an insurance policy that doesn't exclude trackdays?

Any racer covered under a decent liability policy?

Thanks in advance.

Foremost Insurance(Larry Pegram AMA Pro Racer-his sponsor) advertises that they cover track days. After a year I ended up changing to Dairyland Insurance because of a considerable price savings. From $1500 yr to $470. Insurance rates vary from state to state and not all companies write coverage in all of them. In my quest for the best rate Cotton States rates were low and so was Liberty Mutual but they have to have your car's. Dairyland did not.

I don't carry insurance at the track for my race bikes... but a buddy has Geico and lives in CA and is covered. State Farm around here does not, however someone told me they lived in St. Louis and they are covered.

But if you're just looking for liability coverage in case sued, you should be getting yourself (or looking into the coverage of) an umbrella policy. GREAT peace of mind and very inexpensive to get $1M or so.

As stated above, get an umbrella policy to cover your "business" interest.

As for bike insurance for the track....if you can't afford to crash it and repair it or junk the entire bike.....don't put it on the track!

Default Foremost

They do cover track but not racing. They even advertise this in Motorcyclist magazine with a tag line that they realize riding on the track makes us safer riders on the street.

I've got an umbrella. From what I've learned about insurance, umbrella policies follow the same coverage as the basic motor vehicle policy. The policy takes off from the limits on the basic policy. If your MC policy excludes trackdays, so does your umbrella.

If you're talking about a general corporate liability policy, none cover motor vehicles. They don't cover computer ID theft liability or alchohol liability either.

Thanks for the tip about Foremost. Geico and State Farm excluded trackdays in my state 2 years ago.

I specifically asked my State Farm agent about this. They called corporate in Albany and said I'm covered as long as not a race event.

Your state may be different but so far, no joy from Foremost or Farmers. State Farm excluded track days 2 years ago here. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I have State Farm and they have told me that they do not cover racing or schools for racing at tracks. However, I am starting to track my bike with a "riding school" that runs track days. Their policies strictly forbid racing and stunting at the track. When I showed this to my agent, she said that they would cover damages because it would be viewed as a riding school.
