Default Knee as a Tool

***This thread is NOT meant to pick on anyones post, rather to open up an adult discussion on TOOLS OF RIDING***

There seems to be some confession on what dragging a knee is for. It's a tool, not unlike proper body position or looking through a turn. It's just one more tool in your bag-O-tricks to help you become a faste,r more confident rider/racer. Primarily it is used as a gauge to determine where you are in a turn, i.e if I was going into a turn and I knew that I was roughly using 45 degrees of lean the lap before, I could use rough judgment to tell were I was in that turn that lap. If I was going faster or slower in that turn I could tell by the position and proximity of my leg to the inside of my bike .
***NOTE TO THE ABOVE: as long as your body position is the same each lap within that turn, and for most experienced riders it is.

Do not confuse dragging a knee with being fast. There is no correlation and it can be done in a parking lot on cold tires (try at your own risk).

But more importunely "for any rider" is proper body to bike position! do not exaggerate you body position just to touch a knee!

WRONG BODY POSITION

CORRECT BODY POSITION

I find it quite amusing when new track riders come out to a track with the sole purpose of dragging a knee. Many leave with busted up bikes and bodies.

Green bikes are best!!! Especially nuclear cat-sh!t green

Knee isn't even remotely close to the ground (2nd lap no tire warmers), yet I blew by the guy in front, who looked like a sidecar rider hanging off that bike.

Besides, who needs a knee when I can drag a boot? Wife bought a new dog, who decided to chew my trackday boots. So, had to wear touring boots, which sucked. By the afternoon, my feet were cramped and hurt like hell. Damn near lost it in turn 9 when my right foot banged into the ground.
