Posts deleted... lets try this again, but without all the crap. Seems to be contagious lately, more jacked up threads as of late - maybe it's the cold weather nearing, not enough riding.

Certainly came out understanding the purpose of dragging a knee. Once that was understood, then knee dragging became more consistent and less of a "goal".

How have you been? Seems a lot longer than six months since you and I were picking up the bikes at Bob's.

You went to the 2 day course?

That was a long time ago that we picked up those bikes.

Money well spent. No matter what your capabilities, you can learn something. Reminded me of NASA training. I'm not kidding.

Sort of like the Vince Lombardi approach "Gentlemen, this is a football". Get back to basics (or in my case, learn the basics or unlearn what you thought were the basics).

I'll give you my $.02 worth... and maybe it's worth only 1/2 that . I haven't done the CSS (or any others for that matter). I just started doing Track Days this year and yesterday was my 4th. And of course, like many, I too was interested in dragging a knee. And of course, everyone said don't focus on that, it will come w/time. So I quit focusing on that, and focused on getting the right body position, getting comfortable, getting smooth, and getting the right lines. Along w/that I was working on entry setup, braking points, etc. Fortunately there were plenty of racer/experts/instructors that helped me each and every time I was there at the track. (so if you can hook up w/some of them, your learning will be MUCH accelerated). Yesterday I was dragging a knee in a number of the turns. I finally got to understand a little bit more of it's intended use. The first time it happened, I think I sharted ... after that, it was was fun and felt good/normal. The progression I've noticed (since it's just happened) was:

1a) Figuring out what a "good" line is...
1b) Figuring out what the correct body position feels like
2) Getting comfortable w/that body position
3) Being smooth on the bike w/transitions
4) And then speed comes with that progression

Again... I wanted to drag a knee my first time out. Once I talked to those that knew I refocus'd and worked on the above... as well as working on my lap times. And then out of the blue, it just happens.

I'm not one of the expert riders on this Forum, but I have recently experienced the progression and thought I'd share. For the experts, if I got stuff wrong above, fire away... cuz I'm all ears all the time when it comes to trying to learn this stuff.

FYI, just as a side note, it's always humbling when you're riding out on the track and you think you're doing pretty good w/decent times... and you hear someone coming up behind you out of the last turn before the front straight, and they come by passing you, but in a wheelie switching gears doing so That was pretty cool - I had my GoPro going, so I'll have to check to see if I got any footage of it.

2011 schedule should be out in Mid November! VIR is a fun track Interesting topic here as a lot of the students that come to the school have the goal of knee dragging when they show up I remember how badly I wanted to drag a knee as well before my first time. What a lot of people don't realize is WHY we drag a knee in the first place.

What is the whole point of dragging a knee, besides the fact that it looks cool

I started a new thread on "Why Drag a Knee" since I'm sure it will be informative... it is found here --> What is the Purpose of Dragging a Knee?
