Default What gets a rider off the street and onto the track?

I'm just curious to know what you guys think is the main reason that riders get off the street and onto the track. It is because their buddies tell them about the track and or/take them? Do they see races on TV and think, "I can do that?Do they go to improve their riding or to find a safe place to ride fast?

Peer pressure, and some cash to 'blow'

I find that I have a hard time riding a sport bike on the street. I don't have the will power to not twist my right wrist.

^^WHS^^ but i still ride on the street but with loss of License it can also mean loss of job so try and keep it reasonably sensible on the street and hammer it on the track

I lost interest in the street after the first track experience.

Likewise...there simply aren't many "streets" where one can do this "safely" relative to how one can ride on a racetrack. Street is fine, but for me...putting these machines and my [limited] skills through their paces on the track is a lot better...one man's opinion only...YMMV

If there was a race track on this POS island, I would be there every weekend for a track day, alas 60MPH zones being the fastest legal speed here, this bike won't be seeing even 1/3 of it's potential met until I move back to the "main land"

You cant compare track to the street. Once you've had the taste of the track it's hard to go back to the road.

A lot of riders seem to lose interest in riding on the street once they have hit the track. What do you think changes when they get a taste of the track? Is it just that they can go fast without worrying about getting a ticket or losing their license or is there more to it than that?

First Track Day for me was just a week ago... For me it was a little of that but probably more that I had the entire "road" to myself w/out worrying about sand, rocks, rodents, other cars, etc. I could take the same turns over and over and really focus on "riding the bike" and not "defensively avoiding all the other $hit out there (street)".

I will continue to ride on the street too... since I will likely only get a few track days a year in, but it has given me a VERY new refreshing perspective on superbike riding and what they are REALLY meant to do (and can do).

Already have my next Track Day scheduled - can't wait
